Not sure if it belongs in this post but I have noticed past 3 releases my ATV APP ignores my play direct setting which is wired direct and always defaults to transcoding?
Even if I change to direct play then pause or stop it when I resume it goes back to transcoding. My setting I have doubled checked are direct play on
During playback on the Apple TV, can you go to https://app.plex.tv/desktop then click on the settings icon (upper right), and then on the left, under your server name, click on Dashboard.
Take a screenshot of the expanded Now Playing dashboard view and post it here.

Any chance of a reply i replied to your request 17 days ago 
I’m seeing same issue, AppleTV4k won’t play x265, requiring a transcode to x264. If I switch to infuse, it works like a charm.
Also getting error, “App cannot direct play this item. No direct play video profile exists for protocol http, with container mkv, and video codec hevc.”
My kids are getting this message to when they try to play movies. TV shows are fine.
