I have installed everything for plex to be able to use my hardware on my ubuntu 25.04 box with a 7600 amd with 7900xt radeon card. It works in gaming perfectly. I have installed ROCm. I have passed my graphicscard through my container made for amd gpus and transcoding is not working. The amount of tinkering is over for me. If you have intel or nvidia your are probably good but on amd…no, not at all. That is not the issue though! Simple local playback use only cpu and not the gpu. Tried playing movies in firefox, in plex-desktop, in plex-htpc but its all the same. Tried snap version and flatpak version. How is this even possible? Plex seems to have thrown linux users under the buss. Kodi with a 4k uhd full bluray plays with barely touching the cpu. Kodi is open source and free and they can make it work in linux but a company like plex cannot…seriously?
I have plexpass lifetime and its all down the drain. Plex officially do not put any effort on linux any more, or in their words: focusing on mac and windows…So for anyone thinking of using plex for linux only use and not for android/ios/windows i would seriously think twice. There has been only headache with plex on linux. It is not worth the time! I will try and see if i can ge emby to work properly as i am giving up on plex and can only accept the waste of 100 bucks on this garbage.

Or in their words they are focusing on mac and windows…and barely put any effort in linux…it is a matter of viewpoint. A serious company would at least get the bare minimum to work in linux.
I am on amdgpu, not intel or nvidia. even a simple thing as playback locally on my machine is not working as it should. To get transcoding working is a huge pain and i does not seem to figure it out after many hours. This is not ok for something you pay for.
Sure it is stated and in your mind that is ok that plex is not making any effort in making it work properly on linux? It should also clearly state that linux is not any priority for plex. This is a development issue that plex is just not bothering with, nothing else. They should grab someone that knows what they are doing in linux to get amd gpus to work with plex.
Gaming on linux is a real thing happening and to do that the best way on linux is with amdgpu as it is opensource and also steamos is compatible which is truly something amazing.
The guides i have stumbled upon state that it is neccessary to install amd-pro driver and that is a gamekiller so it is not an option. To make it work properly in linux should be on plex agenda but instead i read that they are doing even less on linux.
If you are ok with this its up to you but to me this reasoning from plex is something new linux-gamers or converters from windows 10 need to be aware of as to not give plex any money. As it stands today plex for linux users is a no go. I have searched up and down with no solution that is ok on a gaming machine.
I thought that after a while that plex would make it work on linux but that is not happening. To be able to use plex in linux i need to have a nvidia card or intel to be able to do a simple playback in???
