No 'optimize' menu items anywhere

I’m running the Plex Pass version of PMS (1.11.0.4666) in a jail on a FreeNAS system. Overall it works really well, but recently I’ve started syncing music to mobile devices for offline playback.

All of the music ‘originals’ are FLAC or AAC high bitrate files, so they need to be transcoded to 320kbps for sync to a mobile device. Plex does this when a sync is requested, but it seems silly to do this on demand, I’d rather just produce a 320kbps version of everything in the library. From the documentation it seems that I should be able to select ‘Optimize’ from the menu on the library to do that, but that option does not appear in my system.

Interestingly, after a sync has been completed, if I go into Settings/Optimized Versions, there is nothing listed, so it appears that Plex is not keeping the optimized versions it creates. Why would this be happening?

‘Optimize’ is only available for video content.

A Sync is different from an Optimization. It creates the optimized file, then transfers it to the destination device. After that, the transcoded file is again removed from the server.

Thanks; it would be nice to have the same functionality available for audio files too.
