I download both movies and TV shows from the Internet. Until now, I’ve been playing them though an Android TV box, with the files residing on a thumb drive plugged into the box. Both movies and TV shows play fine this way. Over the weekend I installed Plex and am now running it on the the Android TV Box. Playing the files this way I am finding that there is no sound on the movies, but the sound works on the TV shows. The movies are in mkv, mp4 and avi format, while the TV shows are in the mkv format. Any suggestions on how to get the sound to work on the movie files would be appreciated.
Which brand/model android TV do you have? Can you describe how your Android TV is connected to TV ( is there a receiver, type of cables used, etc) The file format generally does not matter but the type of audio stream codecs in files does.
Puersit box from Amazon, LG non-smart TV. The output of the Android box goes to the TV through an HDMI connector. Playing directly from the box (from a thumb drive) works fine, so something in Plex is blocking the sound…

What sort of HDMi connector… Why do you need one. What sort of audio codecs are in files. Please be specific about your set up… What are your audio settings in the app
The box is no longer on Amazon as I bought it in 2019. The HDMI cable goes from the Android box’s output to the TV input. The box has wifi and that’s how I’m using Plex on it. The film audios are AC3 5.1, AC 3 and AAC 5.1, depending on the film.
Ah Ok , when you said “connector” I thought you meant something other than a HDMI cable. The only audio setting in the app really is to enable audio passthrough or not, you can try changing the options for that.
Some more information. I have 3 movies in AAC 5.1 sound format. They play fine with sound on my TV. Two movies in AC3 format will not play sound on the TV, but play sound on my computer and cell phone.
