No write access

I hope someone can help me with this. I’m using the latest Plexmediaserver for Ubuntu 64bit. I have a mounted folder for all my media at /mnt/storage/media. I have separate directories for Movies and tv under the media folder. I’ve never had problems with Movies file permissions. When I tried to start running the Live TV functionality, I set up the destination folder as /mnt/storage/media/tv. I have ownership of the directory and have set permissions for the folder at 755. I added plex to my group as well just to be sure. Still, whenever I try to record live tv, I get an error in the recording schedule with the exclamation point stating “No write access to destination” I’ve done everything I can think of to grant permission to plex. Is it recording the live video somewhere else besides the destination folder or any tips for making sure plex has write access? THanks!

I have found the following article that might help you: https://www.tech-knowhow.com/2016/03/how-to-plex-permissions-linux/#1483657023013-0e8f9bfb-cd0fe50c-cffe4309-f28c

Thanks for the link! I went through the how to and I think what I’ve done so far matches that. I’ve set up group permissions for my username and the plex account and they should both have access to the directory where Live tv files are designated to go. My filesystem is the native ubuntu ZFS storage pool mounted on /mnt/storage so all the userid and groupid should be consistent. Also, I have no problems with plex writing to the Movie directory on the same storage pool.

For anyone else who possibly runs in to this problem, I went back to the logs and figured out that Plex actually writes tv grabs initially to the hidden .grab directory under media folder. This .grab directory for some odd reason did not have the correct permissions. Changed those permissions and the recordings work.

Thanks for taking the time to come back and mark your reply as “Answered”. It made it easier for me to find this! Although my PMS is on Win Ten, learning this solved my problem as well!

Would you please explain the steps you took to fix this problem? I have the same problem on Win10 and I have been trying to fix it for the last 2 days. Where is this folder and what, how did you change the permissions to?

Thanks for taking the time…
