I’ve seen this work on emby and jellyfin.
In fact I just tested this on jellyfin to see.
It used 60% of my 1080ti but it looks great !

I really hope hardware transcoding get’s supported under windows, it will not only allow me to delete 1TB of lower quality SDR versions but transcoding the 40GB+ version of the movie would look a lot nicer than a 3GB SDR version. This Feature can’t come soon enough!
I have been looking for this solution for days now. Although its not yet implemented at lease I now know why my system was tanking when trying to transcode 1x 4K film.
(3770k 4.3ghz, 32Gb ram, Quadro P2000)
I knew this system could easily do 4K, Now I realises that HDR->SDR Tone Mapping HW transcoding is not supported in windows via Nvidia HW acceleration at this moment in time.
I really hope this feature can be added as the Nvidia GPU can actually handle it, just not on windows at this moment in time. I don’t want to spend the money on a new CPU just for this to work. (I would need a new CPU, Motherboard, Ram. Not a cheap upgrade) We just don’t know how long it will be until this feature is added.

Once 8K gets as fully adopted as 4K, probably 5-10 years from now, that is when 4K HDR will get fully supported by Plex under Windows.

Would be nice to get an official response for plex on this. Uses 20-30% of my 3900x for one stream!

I just added a 3070 to my server, and then I found this thread. I hope this gets added eventually!
