Nvidia Shield / LG CX / HLG type HDR not working on Shield

Hello all,

I was watching the 4K version of “Green Planet” captured from UK HDTV, with HLG type HDR information in the stream and saw some issues.

With the LG CX TV version of Plex, the HLG type HDR is triggered.
With the PLEX app on Nvidia Shield (latest v9 firmware), there is no HDR triggered at all.

Is this an expected behaviour? Or has anyone else succeeding in using this type of HDR successfully on the Shield?

Please let me know if further info or samples needs to be provided.

We have learned that as of Version 9, Nvidia is now checking for all conditions to be right before enabling HDR.

You must have HDCP 2.2 capability from output [ → optional AVR ] → TV for it to enable.

If not, HDR will not be reported back to the app and Plex will transcode+tone map the video.

I had that issue on my Samsung and I had to specifically set the HDMI input to HDR enabled in the TV settings.

did HLG work previously on v8 shield experience?

I wasn’t aware the shield supported HLG at all?
