I would like to see OpenFire by Ignite Realtime bundled into PMS. This would add XMPP Server to plex, and allows users to message each other using any XMPP client, or from a contextual menu withing the Plex Dashboard.
Do you have a particular use case for such an integration in mind?
Plex have added an option for users to interact with friends → https://support.plex.tv/articles/activity-feed/
I’m sure there are lots of use cases. For me specifically:
Blasting users with server is down for maintenance
Blasting users when new media is added.
Users could message admin with requests in realtime, and get realtime response.
Support requests.
Currently my family will send me an email, and I get to it when I check my email. With XMPP IM, these requests and responses can happen in realtime, and improve the experience for all.
There’s already an existing feature suggestion addressing such a feature… please comment/vote in that thread in order to help us avoid distracting or cannibalizing votes → Send server messages
Users can already activate notifications → https://support.plex.tv/articles/push-notifications/
This can already done with the available features from “Discover Together” (Activity Feed etc. – see link above).
Tautulli has some features that may help.
For example, I have it send my users a weekly e-mail with new additions to the Plex server.
I find the playback history useful. I can see who streamed what and when, and if it was direct playing, transcoding, etc.
