I have been looking for information about how to install PMS on Openwrt
I have found a few things googling but most of it old.
it seems from this openwrt post that its possible to install an ARMv7 version of PMS onto Openwrt.
further investigating that i found this post on here
However I cant find a link to download an ARMv7 version of PMS, is that available somewhere?
I also had a question about “direct play”. I understand my router wont be able to do transcoding due to limited resources, but how do i control this? is there a server setting to only allow direct play or is it a client option when stream?
I also found this post on here, it has an armv7 build but its 1.15 - is this the latest build for armv7?
Select Linux from the drop-down list, click Choose Distribution, and then select the Debian/Ubuntu download for ARMv7. It’s a Debian package, so if you can’t install those natively you’ll have to extract it and manually move stuff in to place.
Regarding transcoding, you can disable video stream transcoding in PMS’ transcoder settings.
It’s not a good idea to use the same machine as a router (that needs real time reaction) and a media server, specially on slow processors / small memory that routers normally have. Keep them separate.
i disagree with this. i use minidlna to stream my media library to my tv (across lan) flawlessly.
similarly i can connect my vpn and stream using samba over the internet
as it mentions trans-coding might not be possible but direct playing should work
but i guess it doesnt matter
i would need a Debian chroot to use this. i didnt know that previously, I thought the armv7 made it usable on all armv7 processors
