I have a Feature Request, to add an Option to the “Now Playing” window.
I would like the option to save a target trans-code profile to the Optimize Custom drop down, for later use.
Ideally it would save the target requirements for a particular device and then simply allow files to be optimized, maybe with better compression when the server has time. This would allow simple optimizations for even the least technical.
I will provide an example situation, I have five small children, I have purchased five identical inexpensive android tablets for their use. I have tried all of the profiles available in the Optimize list and none of them allow the server to avoid trans-coding on the fly. My server has no problem handling up to three of the devices streaming at one time, however if my spouse fires up the 4K tellie it is then overwhelmed, if I could provide the exact file type requested in advance for most of the kids shows, all of the devices and the main Entertainment center could all work without any complaining. (if I move an ‘optimized for mobile’ video to the SD card it will play fine so I don’t think it is a major limitation of the cheap android devices, I think it has most to do with H.264 Level reporting)
) it would be quite a nice feature to have a button or readout that displayed which one would work for this device, the server obviously has figured it out, so this would simply be a user friendly way to let us know so we can preset it. I envision myself starting the biggest nicest High res movie I have and then using the now playing to determine the nicest direct play possible.
