The problem:
I only have a 10Mbit/sec (1,25MB/sec) upload connection and most of my media files are stored at bit rates high enough so that when i play them via remote access they stutter every 3 seconds; not very pleasant to watch.
The most important one of my servers (NAS) isn’t powerful to trans-code on the fly…
My question (possible request):
I already know how to optimize/re-encode a 2nd version but i cant find where/how I can select which version plays if accessed remotely and which version plays when accessed locally. This should be possible to configure, no?
I already checked the plex help/support pages but couldn’t find an answer, only explanations how to enable remote access and how to make optimized versions…
The version played back is determined by your video quality bit rate setting. I have a direct bluray rip on my server and I’ve optimized for mobile. If I select original quality it will play the highest bit rate file. But if I change the quality to 4mbps 720p then it will play the optimized version. I know that it’s different because the bluray rip is DTS and requires audio transcode, but when I changed the quality to lower everything became Direct Play.
It would be nice to just select which version you want though, but this can work for now.
Yes, i can change which version is played in the plex app for my Laptop & Desktop.
But for some of my devices I cant choose this.
I can’t find the option in the plex app for my Sony smart TV (android TV) for example… which can be annoying…
