Optimize creating unplayable videos

Server Version#: 1.17.0.1841
Player Version #: All clients I’ve tried (web 4.8.3/plex player/roku/android)

Using optimize to try to cache 1080 versions of 4k movies, optimize is creating unplayable 1080 copies, that seem to have no audio track and the video lists “Proxy type 42”

Any thoughts?

Have you tried 1.18.0? There were a lot of little things fixed in 1.17.0 (initial release of new transcoder).

Just upgraded to the beta after your comment to try it: 1.18.0.1846

Saw this in the scanner analysis log on one just transcoded with optimizer:

That implies there is no MOOV atom in the file.

Is the original file a MP4 ?

If MP4, please consider making sure there is a MOOV atom in the file.

  1. save the original in a safe place
  2. use ffmpeg directly to create a MOOV atom for you in the file by having it “optimize for streaming”.
ffmpeg -i input.mp4 -c copy -movflags faststart output.mp4

It performs two passes. you will see it writing a new MOOV atom at the front of the file.

When complete, put it in place and click “Analyze” in Plex to have it re-analyze the file.
