When a user repeatedly skips intros in a single auto-play session in the same season/series, Skip Intro should become automatic for the remainder of the session. Once auto-skip is activated, the “skip intro” button changes to a “watch intro” button for the remainder of the session, allowing the user to intuitively disable auto-skip for that session.
Add an option like “Number of consecutive skipped intros when binging before intros skip automatically”, default to 2. If 0, all intros skip automatically. If < 0, auto skip will never activate.
Example:
With auto-play enabled, I start episode 1 of some show, skip the intro, finish the episode, auto-play starts the next episode and I skip that intro too, and after those two skips every other intro/outro skips automatically until I deviate from the auto-play session.
(Alternatively, I might skip the intro AND the outro of the same episode; that should trigger automatic intro skip too.)
I don’t like that. I am using this feature heavily - and I like the possibility to skip intros… but then - it is a good time to listen to the soundtrack or get something to drink from the kitchen… just as I decide. One press of a button really is not asked too much from me.
I don’t want a program trying to be smarter than me… so, not vote for this from my side.
I don’t know if it helps or hurts the dev’s motivation to implement this, but this request is simply describing the current Netflix user experience regarding skip intro/outro. It’s really nice when intro and credits are automatically skipped w/o pressing a button, especially for serialized shows where the story simply continues w/o a break.
As you can see, the suggested setting would be to auto-continue to skip if I did it for two episodes.
So you are simply wrong in stating that it would not affect me. My NO is solid as a rock.
If you don’t care what I think of it, that’s fine. But I voice my opinion just as you do.
Why should I go through server setting - or different player settings (since the opinion about that feature would differ from user to user) - to disable it?
OK, what about having two buttons instead, one “Skip this intro” and another that says “Skip all intros”. This way you get to decide for each session (e.g. each time you start a new series/season) whether you want the behavior or not. The default selection would be “Skip this intro” so you still get to press a single button. If that sounds nicer I can edit the request.
I think most users that like the idea of skipping intros are already 90% of the way to liking the idea that they should skip automatically.
I think the more realistic way to implement it would be in the ‘Edit > Advanced’ menu, where you find things like the Auto-delete feature. Then it can be toggled from there.
The majority of users will want this, there will always be a few “I’ll use plex how I want” types. If it’s off by default and enabled by the user then everyone is happy.
First post just to support this. Personally, I love to fall asleep to old TV shows. Often the intros just disturb me, so I’d love the option to automatically skip them.
Plex should remember when user skips intro on a show. And then, the next time the same user skips intro on the same show, whether it’s the same playing session or not, it should give user three options:
Skip intro once
Skip all intros for this show
Skip all intros (never ask again)
This is similar to how phones ask for permission for location. Therefore users are well versed in handling this prompt IMO.
If users select 2nd or 3rd option, let them know they can always change the option later in settings.
There you go Plex, that’s how this feature should work. You’re welcome.
