Option for semi-persistent automatic skip intro

This script only works if I am watching on a computer though, while great, we need this for clients on FireTV’s, etc.

Maybe an option through the clients to select an “always skip this season or show” checkbox when choosing to skip for the first time.

Or another way would be to have a 5s countdown that automatically skipped the intro if not cancelled.

I think we should have a toggle in the player section for “auto skip intro”.
Not have it be programmatic or based on how many times I skip.

The function works 100% for me - I’d love to just have it “toggled on” and if I get the odd show where it isn’t correct, I’ll manually walk it back.

What you’re describing could be achieved by setting the value to 0 for the “Number of consecutive skipped intros when binging before intros skip automatically” option I originally suggested. Would a toggle then be necessary?

Even a shortcut key would make it easier so I don’t have to mouse over to the skip button.

EDIT: Apparently pressing Enter does exactly that (Windows, Plex for Windows player).

I partly agree with you, and think a feature like this should include a setting that inverts the skip intro button to please everyone here. In that case the button would say “Don’t skip intro” (followed by a countdown) and if not pressed within the countdown, the intro would be skipped. This way we can do our refrigerator-trip on demand.

I like your idea. I’ve seen it in other applications

  1. Always Skip Intro
  2. Never Skip Intro
  3. Ask Me each time

If you are too lazy to go through settings why do you even have a plex server, just pay for netflix. The entire point of Plex is personal customization. also it would be set to OFF as default when they add it doorknob, just like every other setting they implement that would alter your experience in a dramatic way. Stop whining about what others want. why are you even on this forum?

Agreed, either based on show or based on season, either would be fine.

Thank you for your very useful tipps and you much wanted guidance on what others should do and what others should not do.

Your kindness is unrivaled and I am happy to have you with us.

Of course you considered of having different points of view in a discussion forum, but possibly considered it unnecessary to iscuss anything that you agree with.

Again, I am happy to have a kind gentleman just like you to tell me what to do. I would have been lost otherwise.

Thank you again.

This would be a very much appreciated feature. Being able to set it based on show would be fantastic. Either a toggle or an auto skip after x skips setting would be great.

I’m getting tired of hearing “I’ll be there for you…”. — you all know the show. My gf puts it on every night to fall asleep to. I would LOVE to auto skip this intro

Any update on this? It would be nice to be able to set this option on a per show basis, something inside the advanced settings like this:

This would be a great feature, voted!

Disagree. If this were to be implemented it would need to be set in the client as I am not going to be setting this per show for my users or force my option on all my users (which what you are suggesting would do).

Honestly, there is no reason the admin needs to be involved with this if they have the intro skip setting enabled. This should be an option that is set at the client level, or better at the account level thinking of it. If set on the account level then it doesn’t matter what client the user is watching on, their preference would follow on all devices. This would be similar to how the audio and subtitle language preferences work. Of course, it should be able to be overridden when the user is watching, easiest would probably be to allow the skip button to handle that.

For example, if somebody always wants to skip then like others have mentioned have the button say “Don’t skip” for a one off, “Never skip” to apply to the remainder of the binge session for the current show (it would then revert back to the behavior from the preference on a new binge session, i.e., after you exit out of the current session by going to the home screen or series/season screen or exit the app completely). There could even be a button that says “Just use my default” that will hide the button for the rest of the binge session, though then you can’t decide to skip again until you stop the current session and restart, but it’s a possibility.

The only way the per show option would work is if it were to be controlled per user some how and if that were the case they would probably need to update the database to hold that information per user per show. I can’t see Plex wanting to do that at the account level as that means they would need to store all that info on their end. There also becomes the problem if someone has access to multiple servers and for some reason one server uses one agent for a show and the other server uses a different one. It wouldn’t be a universal guid in that sense, whereas saving the information to the actual server it would have the correct info.

I agree. Minimal configuration is ideal. Maybe even forego my original suggestion to have a “number of skips to enable auto skip” and just implement this so that when they skip two it activates auto skip, thus changing the “skip intro” button to “watch intro” which would then transparently disable auto skip.

You make a good point, I would want the control to be handled by the client, I really don’t want to manage all of that.

This would be such an awesome feauture! The option to automatically “skip intro” is something I’ve wished for. Since I love to watch tv shows and let it run all night while I sleep. This feature would be very handy! Even when I’m watching normally, I always tend to have to manually hit the skip intro button. By having this process automated would make the experience much better. Please consider implementing this.
