Ordering Photos by Folder

I agree it needs a folder naming scheme like movies and music. Most home videos, digitized content, and images from improperly set cameras don’t include a correct datetime stamp. I have everything in folders by year and then within each year I have subfolders for each day coded as YYYY-MM-DD followed by a description. This keeps everything in order on my server, but in Plex it is completely out of order with no way to sort properly.

Plex needs a manual date override–it cannot rely solely on file metadata.

Could not agree more. I’m using plex only for my home videos and photos.

The sort by ‘Folder’ was added to iOS, which is great. So now if I sort by folder they are in order using the YYYY-MM-DD folder naming convention. However, it would be great if it acknowledged the parent folder so that the top level was folders by year so you didn’t have to scroll through so many folders.

Folder structure ’ YYYY > YYYY-MM-DD [optional description]’. Also, on the remote device, such as an iPhone, there doesn’t appear to be a way to sync a folder of images–the only option is to ‘Sync All’. This isn’t very useful when you have terabytes of personal photos/movies.

Still not working in windows server :frowning:

Is there an update on this - I can see the folders using Plex Server through Chrome/Explorer but the iOS app does not show the folders at all.

I came here because I also couldn’t find the browse by folders option on the Nvidia Shield TV Plex client. Please fix this!

Wow . . This is really getting on my wife’s nerves. She is blaming me because I recommended you guys. And now it has been broken for a VERY long time. :frowning:

I was hoping there would have been an “organize by folder” option added back by now. Plex, Please add this back. I am currently looking for another tool to browse photos by folder - has anyone found a good tool to use since it appears that plex is not going to add this feature back?

Please PLEX, add organization by folder tree. The way we have it right now is simply unusable… any news on this? Is it in the roadmap?

+1 on this
Folderview is the only thing I am missing in Plex. How am I supposed to find that one picture of 2016 I am searching today? It´s straight up impossible.

Is there a way to get these photos organized?

Hi there, First off let me say thank you for all you do and have offered. For media organization I feel that Plex is on a completely different level than anything I have used. What you enable us to do is almost magical. I sing your praises to anyone that listens.

Second I have a question when adding photos. I sort my photos (238,000-ish and counting) by year, season, and then event. This is the easiest way I have found to keep things organized and find what I am looking for easier. As I am adding a long history of family pictures to Plex with the anticipation of sharing with family members I am not able to keep/display in this format. Through reading various posts, I know it is something you are working on for the future but I was wondering when that might be? I know the current work around is to create a library for each folder added but that clutters up the “pin/more” menus quickly. It seems like if you were able to apply the same sort as you do for “other videos” this could be a quick fix, of course I am not a programmer so I could be wrong but I believe in magic!

Thanks, Jeff

Very disappointed in the photo section. The “only” reason I installed this was to view my photo collection from various devices using the same app and not using “cloud”. I can view them, but some creature in the code decides how they are organized rather than using my file structure. All folders are named with year, month, day, and key word. ( 2006 1231 NYC Ball Drop) Obviously no photographers on the team. Glad I didn’t send the money. So I’ll never know what the rest of the program can do…
Cheers…
