Photos Folder view

hi, I notice when browsing photos on plex there’s no more “folder view” option. My picture library are arrange by folder, (year, name of event). Is there any way i can still view them as folder. The grid view, timeline view doesn’t work for me. Thanks.

Hi, Exactly! I have 26,000 pictures all arranged in folders, and up until around November everything was fine, now it’s one huge mess! Please Plex people, sort this! Not everyone is interested in the latest gimmicks like DVR!

Agree, this feature should be implemented again ASAP

Yes, I agree. The browsing using the folder-view feature was one the most interesting for us. My entire photos (nearby 60.000) are organized in folders, per year, then per event, … my folders are actually a sort of albums for us. So we need this feature back as soon as possible. Thanx in advance.

it is very quiet in here isn’t it?

On Plex Web app, there is a drop-down to select one of Photos , Timeline and Albums

The Photos view actually gives you the top level folders within the library
The Timeline view is date based
The Albums view gives you the albums you created within Plex

The way sa2000 does not work the way I want(ed) to use Plex photo’s.

I want to browse it by folder, not a weird album browse thingy in a long list.

sa2000, I agree with others. What you describe is not what we want. I want the previous functionality, browsing by folders.

Im close to give up, have actually already moved my pictures, and will most probably move my private videos shortly, just need to find a way to “cast” the videos to google chrome whitout using PLEX

Which Plex client app are you using ?

Plex Web does give a folder view when selecting Photos view
So in selection, first drop-down is All and second drop-down would be Photos which gives you your top level folders within the library

I think sa2000 does not understand what we want/need

I don’t particularly either but I’m open to a more detailed explanation.

Browsing like this in photo albums
Like how we can in music

Thanks for the active chatting by the way!

SA2000, It is the same in IOS and on the website version. It will not show folder view.

The only place you can still select folder view is on the server it self. If you go to the “plex management console” on the server and select the photos, then I can select the folder view. So, you might have tried there.

I think the confusion here just lies with how the view is presented.

Both the example of the music folder view above and the “Photos” view in the web app would share the same folder hierarchy, the only real difference being that folders represented in the folder view have no thumbnails and are generally smaller.

The same would be true when selecting “Grid View” in iOS for photos. The navigation would be identical to the proposed folder view and only the presentation would differ.

Which means adding a folder view like the one proposed would mean we have two views that are practically identical which doesn’t make much sense.

Maybe a better approach would be to ask what features exactly of this desired folder view are missing from the current Photos view? This way we can possibly add those missing features to the existing view instead of having two practically identical views.

Hi drzoidberg33. We do not whant a new feature. We wnat the old (last year) functionality back. Let med show you in these 2 simple screenshots.

First, from IOS Plex app. A test photo folder. It shows a number of folders

Next is the actuall folder structure on the disk.

As you can see, the IOS app (and the web interface does the same), shows the folders, and shows ALL subfolders. Hence the folder structure is not usefull. We want to see the actual folder structure, not including all subfolders.

Please direct us in how to get this. It was working before the january update

Your example above is definitely not the expected behavior. I have identified an issue that can cause this to happen but could you reproduce the issue on your side and send me you logs?

Just go into your app and load up that view in your post above then go to the server and go to Settings → Server → Help → Download Logs and post it here.

Here are the log.

I made a photo view, app 15 seconds before I got the logs.

Thanks! This is super useful.

If you need my logs, let me know.

SOLVED…

Dear All,
I was checking my “server version”. Tried to press update and nothing happend on the server interface. Have tried before and just assumed it was OK.

I got the idea to doublecheck this on the PLEX homepage. My server version was 1.10.xx and on the homepage there were a 1.11.3. I could not get the server to update automatically from the interface, so I downloaded and installed the new version.

NOW IT ALL WORKS.

Why my server was not updating, I do not know. Think that you other guys might have the same issue.

drzoidberg33, thanks for looking into this.
