I have downloaded Podcasts that I am trying to create a library for in Plex. The podcasts do not include a series number and some older ones I do not have a date for either. When I create a library as a movie it separates out every video file as a different item. When I create a library as a TV show, it combines multiple items and does not appear to be showing all the videos. Also, these items have no TVDB information for identification.
I am looking to have each show similar to a TV show, but in each, index the items without an episode number.
Here is the folder structure example:
Non-chronological
\Dilbert
Exploding kittens.mkv
Wally Hates Cats - 20100804.mkv
\Foamy the squirrel
The Scholarship.mkv
Dating Advice.mkv
Parking Spots - 20180119.mkv
In my experience any video file you put into a folder without S01E01 - Podcast Name, will result in not being found by Plex. You can’t leave the file blank with no season or episode number. For Podcasts I have setup like such:
Parent Folder -> Podcasts
\Audio
\CNET Audio Podcast
\NPR Podcast
\Video
\NPR Podcast Specials\
S01E01 - Interview with Special Guest 1.mkv
S01E02 - Interview with Special Guest 2.mp4
S01E03 - Interview with Special Guest 3.avi
\Tedtalks\
S04E01 - Tedtalks Guest Speaker 1.mkv
S04E02 - Tedtalks Guest Speaker.mp4
S04E03 - Tedtalks Guest Speaker.avi
The issue I have with this system is I know I am still obtaining older episodes, so I have to keep renaming the episodes, every time I find a new older episode I do not have. Do you have any suggestions @JR86?
well, I did this with another TV Library I made for say fitness videos and for one of the “tv shows” I realized some were date or year based so again… I made a TV Library and instead of S01E01 I replace Season 01 or S01 with the year of the content was made.
Season 16 = 2016
Season 17 = 2017
Season 18 = 2018
Season 19 = 2019
\Health & Fitness
\Burn Those Donuts Off \
\ Season 16 \
S16E43 - July 1st, 2016.mp4
\ Season 17 \
S17E42 - May 5th, 2017.mkv

btw - do not do date based naming like 01-20-2018 in your files because plex will not read them how I have it up above. I had to type out the date as such -> July 8th, 2016 <- the st or th after the actual day is how I got the file names to appear above.
I wish there way a mode to organize series without seasons and episodes, it seems like a functional deficiency. Especially when old podcasts may not have a way to find the published year/episode.
