So this became more obvious to me when I started using voice search with a Nexus player.
With music you can do a artist search and plex displays a page with linked albums, but with tv shows and films you cannot do a similar search. What would be great would be to see pages for actors/directors so you can do a search for a person and it would have an artist page and list link shows/films that the person directed and acted in.
That already exists. It is called IMDB. :rolleyes:
And someone even made a browser extension which enhances the Plex Web client with some of that functionality you desire.
Actually, I have been messing around with MediaBrowser for the last month and it has a great 'actor / director' feature which would be great in Plex.
When you select a movie from your library, it shows you the synopsis etc just like plex, except it has another section with the cast with photos and info which you can further explore with links to other movies in your library.

To note, this is actually functionality that Kodi has as well. Something similar can be seen in the new Preview apps though (Xbox One I know for sure) and it's that there is a little drop down that will give you a link that says "More Movies with " or "More Movies in ". Not exactly the same thing, but a nod in the right direction.
The browser extension mentioned above, Transmogrify, is pretty nice though if your using Plex Web, gives you a direct link to IMDB and such.
And thinking about this more I started looking at the metadata for shows and films pms stores.
I see it has editable tags for multiple writers and directors on films but no actors, whilst for shows it has none of these. All which makes searching for say all the shows and films on my server that joss whedon has been involved pretty impossible.
I do wonder why in the film tags section there is nothing for actors, but stuff for directors and writers.
I think I would like this feature. A simple page, with basic cast info pulled in from IMDB and a place to edit the actor’s/actresses’ picture as well.
