Photo library stops playing sporadically when videos are mixed in

Server Version#: 1.32.5.7349
Player Version#: 9.29.0.3217 (6c7fa64)

Hello,
I’m running my Plex server on Ubuntu to display family photo and video in slideshow format. I do this with the Photo Library, which is a great way to mix photos and videos. This works very well on my Roku devices, but not on my FireTV devices.

The issue is that the slide show will play for anywhere from 5-15 minutes, and then get “stuck” while trying to load a video. Usually it says “Unable to play media” and will appear to be buffering. However my videos are very short clips – maybe 30 seconds, and mostly 1080p or lower. I am only playing content locally. The funny thing is if I click back and forth to go back to the previously displayed image, and then forward back to the video that wouldn’t load, it will eventually play the video. It might take 3-4 times of doing this, but it does eventually play every time. So the content is compatible for sure, but it gets “stuck” for some reason.

I’ve done a lot of debugging to try to figure this out. I’ve side-loaded the most recent version of Plex client that I could find onto the FireTV. I’ve fully updated my Plex server. I’ve confirmed that Roku will play the slideshow indefinitely. I’ve toggled on and off about every transcoding and streaming setting I can think of, including hardware acceleration and setting the transcoder quality to very fast and low quality. I replaced an older FireTV stick with a newer FireTV 4k stick; same issue.

Are there any steps I can take to fix this and/or is this a known issue? Would love to get this working smoothly on the FireTV devices.

Thanks,
Kevin

Just confirming this is still an issue.

Hi,

This is a known issue and has been filed to be fixed. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Thank you, is there a way I can follow the bug so I know when it’s fixed and can be tested?

Thanks,
Kevin

Unfortunately not, however, I will update you once the issue has been addressed.
