Using Direct Play, picture based subtitles don’t seem to work in the Plex app on my TCL Android TV. I have tried Vobsub subtitles that came from a DVD and PGS subtitles that came from a Blu-ray disc. I can select them but they don’t display. SRT subtitles work.
I wonder, if it is just me or if this is a general issue that everybody has? I researched this a bit and it seems the Exo player that is internally used by the Plex app, does not support picture based subtitles.

it looks like the subtitles are in VobSub format. This isn’t supported by ExoPlayer. We would accept a high quality pull request implementing support for this

I don’t think we support either at the moment. Marking as an enhancement. We’re unlikely to prioritize this, however, so the most likely path to this being supported would be an external contribution.
If I interpret this correctly, the developers are saying that they will put it into Exo player if someone makes a contribution (provides the code).
Perhaps somebody with experience in this regard might be able to help? Perhaps the Plex developers themselves might be able to provide the code? Assuming that my understanding of this issue is correct, that person could help bring picture based subtitles to all Android devices and to Plex for Android.
