Just to mention that this issue is still around. I have it on all my iOS devices. Seems to mainly affect Mpeg4 files.

I have the same issue. I’m running Plex on a Ubuntu (14.04) VirtualBox. Very annoying indeed.


PS I use iPad and ATV3 clients.

Hit this on streaming to my ipad today. iOS app 3.5.1+ iOS 8.0.2 + PMS 0.9.10.3.665 + OSX 10.9.5

I’m running Plex on both an Apple TV 4 and Nvidia Shield. I’m having this issue only on the Apple TV.

I am seeing the same playback issue on our Apple TV 4, both with tvOS 10.2 and tvOS 11.

It might be related to the setting “Auto Adjust Quality” in the Apple TV client. It was set to “Auto”, and the issue was consistent on all (or most) TV episodes. Tried setting it to “off” now, and it seems to have removed the issue. I have only tested this on a single episode which had the issue, don’t know if this is a permanent workaround yet.

I am seeing this issue on one of my Apple TV’s but not the other at the moment too. Its driving me mental, I have even done a full factory reset on it and it is still doing it.

Have you tried Trans coding the offending title to mp4 in handbrake if not mp4 already

This was a recent phenomena (last 3 months maybe) happening on playback of many of my shows, but not all. I, too, had the “Auto Adjust Quality” on my AppleTV 4th gen. As soon as I turned it off, I have played several files back without issue - where they all had problems with the setting enabled. Since this problem seemingly appeared in the past few months it seems like it is related to a change in the AppleTV Plex client. Was the Auto Adjust Quality setting added in that timeframe (or altered). Too bad, since it sounded like a good feature.

I am having this same issue.
I am not using automatic quality, and I checked that it happened both through casting from Android app to Google Chrome Ultra, and through the web player.

Happening for me as well, Plex pass user with Linux server and casting to chrome cast. Must have been latest update that’s caused this.

I’m having the same issue. The playback stops and looks like it’s buffering 10 -30 seconds from the end of the file but then just stops play back. I’m using Plex Media Server Docker Version 1.15.0.659 and I using Firefox and Plex Web as Plex Player. My wife is starting to get VERY annoyed.

Found this thread with a google search just now after identifying it happens every time. Been happening for a while but never looked heavily in to it till me wife started to complain.

Can confirm i am having the same issue with PMS running Docker 1.15.0.659. Plex web on Chrome/FF both have the same issue, playback stops with 10-20 seconds left in the episode. Movies/TV are both affected, but with movies, its less of an issue since it hits when long credits are almost done. With TV, some shows like Modern Family have video over the credits and it cuts mid dialogue.

I can confirm a workaround is to use Plex Media Player Version 3.83.1 (windows app) which does not cut toward the end.
