Video plays for a second and ends

I have had a issue occuring randomly for some time. I select an TV episode or movie(less common) and it plays for 1-5 seconds, then the video ends and Plex recommends I play the next episode or restart the current one. Generally if I restart the episode it plays fine but not always.

It’s not all the time but I was able to reproduce it one night and there was no huge CPU or memory spikes. I also validated that the video was being direct played (no transcoding required).

I have had this happen on my Nexus 5x, Amazon fire 7 tablet and Android tv. This leads me to believe the problem is server side, but all the clients are over WiFi (the tv was hard wired and still had this problem, it is on wifi now though). PMS is installed on a 2nd or 3rd gen core i3 running Windows 10 off a SSD with plenty of free memory

Any insight? Just happened and the Android TV is hardwired (100mbps connection)

I’m having the same problem on my Nexus Player. Some shows play for barely a second. Restarting the file works fine, but it sometimes takes multiple tries.

Plex, come on! I feel I did a decent job explaining the scenario where this happens! This problem seems to be worse for me when the tv of hard wired (100mb not gig), my Linksys router seems to be limiting WiFi throughout, now PMS and tv are on the same Netgear dumb switch…

Not sure if this is related, but I was trying to watch a show a couple minutes in and Plex just sat there spinning (moved to all black screen with the yellow wait circle spinning). It did nothing for a couple minutes… I then got back (Android TV) and started it again and it played with no delay…

attached is the server log. if this is not the same issue please let me know and i will start a new thread. this could be an Android and not server issue

Same issue on my Android TV and smartphone. It always happens for first video being played right after application launch. Playing next video or restarting the same one works fine for me every time. Cannot reproduce the problem using web player, so it could be android related. Will try to test it on PS4 tomorrow.

Same problems here. Both stopping after 1 second and spinning black screen. Hard-wired Android TV.

I’m seeing exactly the same behavior. It’s particularly bad when the next episode is queued to autoplay after the current one is done, so it just skips one. This is on a stock nexus player.

Edit: The episode in question where it just happened was playing via Direct Play.

Same here, Happens on both my Sony Android smart TV’s (before and after latest firmware updates on Plex and TV’s).
Any fix?

I am seeing both issues with my Amazon FireTV, the play a few seconds then pretend the episode ended, and spin and spin instead of playing. The spinning issue is easy to spot because the controls don’t show, just the spinner.

I have the same issue, plays for a second on the fire stick then acts as if the episode ended.

I have exactly the same issue on a “Samsung Smart TV”. If I use the TV version of the Plex app it never happens, so it’s not a problem with the media files.

Same issue exactly on multiple Fire TV Stick basic editions.

Same issue Sony tv as well as xboxone also friends connected remotely and they both have lg TV’s.

Same issue on Fire Stick and LG TV. All media is direct play, plays 1 second, “finishes”, then if in playlist goes on to play the rest fine or if just a stand alone video it asks if I want to replay. Happens every time.

Same issue, FireTV stick (have 4 of them).

I am having this issue on Fire TV, Nvidia Shield, and Pixel 2.
