Is Plex EVER going to address playlist management? It’s like stepping back to 1995. I can’t sort the songs in them, I can’t search the songs in them I can’t created based on genre or rating. To say they are barely functional is frankly overrating them. Why do you keep ignoring your music users? Please give us basic playlist management functionality like I’d get in any of a dozen free players.
Well for the first 2 items that is true.
But if you are not aware you can actually create “Smart” playlists which is really just a filter so you can say if rating is greater than X or if Artist Genre is X and you can even logically AND them
You can get real crazy and make a custom playlist that is Genre “Country” and Rating “5” but we all know there are no 5 star rated country songs

Playlist folders would be nice. I hope that’s not too difficult to implement, given we now have collections.

Those of us who use use the iTunes .XML file import already do this however the folders created in iTunes get imported the first time but if you happen to rename or delete the original folder, Plex will create a ghost folder with nothing in it in the database and those playlists won’t show up currently in both the Roku and Android apps. The playlists within the folders ONLY show up in full entirely on the web version of the Plex Server.
Not sure I understand this correctly, but here is my experience with PlexPass versions: In the web version, all playlists are imported with no folder structure. The Roku preview version that I just installed does show folders. I have not attempted to delete or rename playlists or folders. Ideally, I would like the playlists to be updated regularly just like the movie folders and reflect the state of the iTunes lists.
I agree with the OP. Yes, playlists for music are getting better, but still lacking:
Sortable playlists. Re-sort based on Artist, genre, track length, etc. Such a basic playlist function still not incorporated is deeply disappointing.
Duplicates. An alert to let me know a specific song is already in a playlist is required.
Just those two changes alone would make a world of difference.

- duplicate (sorting, searching…) → Playlist sorting and searching feature request
- implemented → smart playlists
