Playlists Needs Covers.. Just look at the Difference!

I’ve been hearing for years from Plex users that they would like the ability to add custom covers to their music playlists. I decided to show the Plex team what a difference it would make in the image attached below. I’m not sure why this feature hasn’t been added as yet, but this mockup shows how quickly we can find our playlists (especially when we are using the Plex app while driving)

I want to hear feedback from my fellow users which they would prefer.
Thanks Guys!

I like it with covers (gives it that “compilation album” feel) but, I would assume, the “average” user wouldn’t take the time to make a cover just for a playlist of songs, they probably never did on their old ipods/zune’s or have to do it for any other streaming service, so I can see why it wouldn’t be a priority for the Plex developers.

exactly what forkboyink said, it looks nice, but the majority of people likely wouldn’t create their own images for playlists. Even myself, who does graphic design regularly, I wouldn’t take the time to design covers for my playlists, call it laziness, I just don’t wish to dedicate the time to coming up with stuff for each playlist, heh. So that’s probably why it hasn’t gotten traction or been put in as any kind of priority.

I think both your points could be applied to the movie collections section in Plex. Who has time to find cover for movie collections?.. yet the team added the feature to be able to add covers there. It seems like they just forgot to add the feature in the early stages of development, and don’t have the resources now to add the code in to allow a custom image.

I just want the same ability for music playlists which I personally feel needs it more than movie collections. You as a user don’t have to use the feature and stick with the generated covers… just give the users the option to choose.

I didn’t even notice the collections covers was a thing… And you’re right, it can be applied there… However, a collection of movies is typically franchise everyone could own. A Playlist is generally curated by the user.

For instance, I could find a Harry Potter collection or Indiana Jones collection image quite easily, I can’t find a “Jason’s 90’s Electronica Mix” poster without making it myself…

That’s the only counter I have to your argument…
