Why is this not a standard feature? I feel like it wouldn’t be any harder than tv shows resuming from the last played episode. At least allow playlists to start playing from the first unwatched item… would solve a lot of problems
This should be a standard feature
Just adding my voice here as well, playlists seem nearly pointless without the ability to resume them. Having seen how long this thread has been around though, I have no real hope of the development team doing this anytime soon. As others have said, they’re too focused on trying to build another streaming service and have chosen to leave practical feature requests like this unaddressed.
I agree having the place in a playlist remembered when resuming a session is a good feature.
As long as we are talking about errant behavior in playlists… Why do videos resume playback from a previously watched location? THAT location is remembered from some previous playback but the location within the playlist isnt remembered. There should be a way that when in a playlist, videos are started at the beginning, or at least an option to allow that behavior. Its ridiculous that I can select a tv playlist… hit shuffle… and suddenly an episode is started close tot the end, because a month previously I was watching the episode and stopped playback.
Yes please! Buffy/Angel and Marvel in particular need this playlist feature in order to be useful,
It’s honestly ridiculous that this hasn’t been implemented in over 6 years. It cannot be that hard.
+1 for me as well. This needs to happen soon. It’s sort of a main feature for such a platform.
I just bought a lifetime pass and start my Plex experience. Playlist resume is really(!) needed…
And Stargate, the Arrowverse, Dragonball, etc…
I’m using playlists exclusively for organizing the order to watch shows in. As they are right now, it’s a real hassle to actually use as a playlist. I’d even be happy with controls and filters that lets us mark an entire playlist as unwatched, and to ignore subsequently played items.
I have countless half watched episodes because I can’t resume my shuffle playlists.
I utilize the Playlist feature quite a bit. Star Wars Chronological, Marvel Chronological, Battlestar Galactica Chronological, etc. which always require a Google search to see the exact order to play them in. A simple, “Continue Playlist” (with the cover of the playlist) would be all that is needed to enable this functionality. I’m sure it would be pretty easy to set a flag when a playlist was started that could trigger this Continue Watching event.
People have been asking for this for years now. Currently, I have to look in my Continue Watching list and see the episode/movie that it suggests, then go to the playlist and scroll down until I get to that episode/movie.
We really need this option, because by example I listen music when I work and during launch break I show an TV episode and when I return to work, i’ts boring to lsiten again some titles form my Music playlist.
It’s been 7 years I thought I was hallucinating that this feature is not there. This feature will be very nice for a Playlist besides individual items in the Playlist.
I have the exact same thing, right down to the series!
This would be GREATLY appreciated. I have gone thru and created an Arrow-verse playlist. Which consists of all DC Arrow Shows and the order in which they should be watched. Also created a Marvel-Verse one with movies and tv shows. I am currently on 125/425 and it’s already getting pretty old to have to scroll all the way down to resume where I left off. I am also NOT deleting this playlist for the reason of using it again sometime.
I swear it used to have a “watched/unwatched” status for items on the playlist before. Doesn’t anymore.
Does the ‘Continue Watching’ section on the homepage show the last watched episode and let you pick up where you left off ?
I use playlists a lot… but I am always playing in random order… If you are watching the playlist in order, it might be enough…
It isn’t good enough for me, since once you resume… it loses the fact that you were watching a playlist in random order and it picks up the series itself and not the playlist and progresses in order afterward.
“It isn’t good enough for me, since once you resume… it loses the fact that you were watching a playlist in random order and it picks up the series itself and not the playlist and progresses in order afterward.” <— yeah it’s in continue watching but like you said it doesn’t pick up where you left off in the actual playlist. Problem is that my “continue watching” looks like this lol
i’d like to put my 2 cents in here. i’ve made a smart playlist of all the 90s star trek series in airdate order, so i can watch the crossovers and everything. there are over 500 episodes. if i wanted to watch some and then come back i’d have to scroll to the last episode i watched, or make an additional playlist with unwatched episodes. just being able to remember where i left off and go directly there would be amazing.
Added my vote to this thread (originally from 2014!? Hopefully that doesn’t mean it wont ever be implemented)
My most recent use case: Created a playlist of Batman moves, with the 90s ones + Dark Knight trilogy. Would like to be able to resume the playlist at the next movie.
The simplest fulfillment of this feature request would be to allow a playlist item to surface in Continue Watching, and (as stated in some posts above), have the CW entry live inside the playlist container, not its original container, so that when selecting it from CW, the next playlist item will play after (instead of nothing, or whatever the next item is from that item’s original container)
Bonus would be integrating Watch Together neatly with playlists (a “shared” playlist that stays synced between all users), but that seems a subject for a different thread ![]()
