Please enable 'Use embedded tags' in Photo libraries

Still can’t believe this hasn’t been added yet… Plex Photos is basically a waste of time without it.

Another vote for embedded tags in Plex. I’ve invested a ton of time creating a solution to automatically get the photos we’ve taken from our phones onto my home server, tagged, and into Plex. Just to realize that Plex can’t read the tags…This is a huge bummer, as one of the big reasons I’m paying for a Plex Pass is so I can use it as a replacement for Google Photos.

Indeed, Plex photos is pointless, I have hundreds of tags used across thousands of photos and plex ignores it all. Why on earth would anyone be bothered to use a service that ignores all the work already done

Metadata cannot be that hard to work with. Plex has been so slow with so many things. putting so much errot into games or live tv when the basics are just getting left behind. Anyway you can just assign one person to start working on this? Just some progress torward adding such a basic feature would make alot of people happy.

5 years this Feature Suggestion has be active and still not implemented.
Like everyone else, i find Plex Photos pointless without Metadata.
Stop developing features that no one wants and start on this please.

I agree that having the photo’s section without being able to read any embedded tag is basically useless. I have over 100k photo’s. Please implement this feature.

This and HEIC support is holding this feature back.

Please use the industry standard metadata that we all have spent hours of our lives assembling

In its current guise the photo section is essentially useless as it ignores, as others have said, the industry standard metatags and that’s inexcusable. I had to start using a different system to enjoy my own library. This is the same problem that plex has with music, it ignores the well established tags.

Echoing everyone else’s comments here. Please implement this feature. I have hundreds of thousands of photos of friends, families, events with tags that I’ve spent years building and you expect me to re-tag everything in Plex?

The Plex API cannot even withstand that many calls to the database assuming I have the most optimized script.

Just absurd that it is not a standard feature.

This is the last missing feature for Plex Photos to be usable

It’s really interesting how consistently a community requirement can be ignored over 5 years. It’s great that you can buy auto-tagging with PlexPass, which you don’t need because the tags are already there but Plex just ignores them.

This would be a very useful feature. I’m using a modified version of pptag now too, but is silly to have to do this. Whenever a file is added/updated plex could easily import that Keywords from it. Please make this an option.

HEIF support is pretty big, too.

I was considering using plex as my photo album viewer and am astounded that it can’t read the metadata. I am now considering other options. A local database of plex metadata is useless to the user when it can’t be pulled from the metadata that people maintaining their photo albums setup.

The fact that there is an open source solution to update Plex’s internal metadata information with information from the photos shows how easily this could be implemented. Please work on this basic feature of photos.

Would like to hear, what open source solution you’re using.
Thanks for any Info about this.

And as said lots of times above:
I would LOVE to have a direct implementation in Plex Media Server for Photo Tags too!

I had tried DigiKam, it’s quite good but the interface isn’t great. I tried it because it reads and writes metadata to the file so everything can see it. Apart from plex

Wow. Since nov/2016 and this is still to be done!
If Plex add this I could have all my media on Plex. Tagging is a core feature for photos.

Yes, Please thousands of photos in plex with file level tags (EXIF tags) and completely not usable or searchable in plex. Come on.

It is an inexcusable omission
