Please enable 'Use embedded tags' in Photo libraries

I really really would like to be able to search/filter by keyword. I organize with Lightroom, and have invested quite a lot of time writing EXIF keyword data.

In general, I’d only want Plex to be read only for this metadata. My workflow is such that Plex is only looking at duplicates, so read/write access wouldn’t be a deal breaker, but yes, I’d just rather Plex copy EXIF data. It seems weird that Plex can filter movies by actor, but not photos by keyword.

This would be a great feature, I just upgraded to plexpass to use the photo library option and support the project and it seems not all my videos + photos uploaded from IOS are reflecting properly via “sort by date taken”.

That’s a different bug, reported here:

No doubt - an overdue functionality! Please allow EXIF tag imports with an addition of a tree-like visualization of tags just like light room (generic … specific)

Plants
L… Trees
L… Oak

Would be great if the AI-auto tagging feature could supply hierarchical info as well…
Next it would be great if EXIF data could be saved within in the photos
Using GPS-Data from from EXIF to put pictures on the map would top it off…

Definitely. All my photos are tagged. Plex needs to display the embedded info.

But there are already several similar requests. Like this one from myself 3 years ago.
Or this one from 2015.

Anyway, I’ve just voted for this one also

+1. Please add this feature.

I agree - seems crazy to implement some automated algorithm and not just read the tag properties already in the files if they exist.

Being able to see tag information is pretty essential I think in a photo app, but if tags could also be included like the camera details into smart playlist a bit like Lightrooms smart collections it becomes awesomely powerful very quickly.

I would love this. Photos in general could benefit greatly from more attention.

Is there any workaround ? Since this request was made years ago and still not implemented it doesn’t seem this will be added any time soon. Maybe it’s possible to somehow copy IPTC data into the caption that Plex use ? For me it is kind of a must have feature as I have a lot of data stored into the IPTC description. Which alternatives/ software do you use for pictures ?

Filter by keywords and auto syncronizing keywords from/to original file +1

+1 Please implement EXIF metadata for photos. Especially GPS location data and keyword tags.

Why does Plex never respond to these things?

Yes, please implement use of existing EXIF data, and an ability to search/sort across display clients. I have no need for editing any of the data within Plex, as I tag 100% of my photos when captured (using Photos or Lightroom), and also have no need for hueristic processes that attempt to guess what the contents may be.

What Plex already has is close, but without these capabilities which are natural for any serious photographer, I can’t use photos within Plex. It’s simply unreasonable for me to try and rename 40K+ photos to work better within the existing Plex structure, when EXIF data is all there.

I am also eagerly waiting on the capability to search my 40k+ photos by the EXIF tags I have embedded in them. The auto-tagging that Plex does to the photos library is a “neat” feature…but my own photo tags are much more important to me.

Put me down as a +1 for EXIF tags. The photo side of Plex is of no use to me without it…Thanks.
