Plex 0.9.12 "Scanner is required"

Dear all,

during the course of updating my Plex Server to version 0.9.12 recently I've been running into a problem that is shared among several users in the recent time:

Upon creating a new library and trying to alter the Scanner the "Add Library" button grays out and the words "A Scanner is required." pop up.

Switching back to the default scanner once this message appears also does not work.

Restarting Plex does not work.

And interestingly downgrading to older versions of Plex does neither.

Setting the rights on the scanner file also does not help.

It nevertheless works for the old libraries...

I am more or less at my wits end, do you maybe know more?

Someone else that is having this problem.  Wow.  I thought it was an issue with my modified scanner.

Devs, is there some file I can modify to manually change the library being used?

thread with most info (to me): https://forums.plex.tv/topic/160013-pms-09120-doesnt-let-me-create-libraries-with-alternate-agent-or-scanner/page-2

I narrowed it down to me to Plex/Web 2.4.0 - 2.4.3 versions of PMS impacted PMS Version 0.9.9.10.459, 0.9.11.16.958, 0.9.12.0.1071, impacted OS: Synology, MacOS, Debian (solved his by going into chrome incognito mode), Ubuntu 14.04

Plex web seem to stay in /usr/syno/etc/packages/Plex Media Server so this needs purging before installing new version.

To reproduce: PMS Version 0.9.9.10.459 - plexweb: Version 1.2.25 works but then Plex Web update itself to 2.4.3 and it stops working, but it initially told me there wasn't an update, but it update automatically within an hour

Seem like Plex Web since 2.4.0 to 2.4.3 (latest) give the issue on linux machines

Path for scanner is correct otherwise it wouldn't be listed. The scanner code isn't responsible since even default scanner renamed as custom scanner cause the issue AND even selecting back default scanner leave it in the same error state once triggered

It's also occuring in the Windows version.

Where is the Plex Web install location.  I even uninstalled the current version and installed a version from a year ago and it still occurred.  At this point, since it's a new installation, I have no problem uninstalling the current version, purge all the current files, including Plex Web, install an older version, get the Scanner up and running, and then upgrade it.

I'm guessing I have to remove it from the network before Plex Web auto updates itself.

WebClient.bundle and WebManager.bundle and also  /usr/syno/etc/packages/Plex Media Server (or it reuse the latest) or equivalent.

It auto-updates so even my old install got updated in matter of hours. correct, if you remove from the network and monitor plex/web, that should work

I have the same problem with windows but I was able to get around it by using firefox instead of chrome.

Although in firefox I can select it & save it, it does not seem to actually save it.  When I check again it doesn't show Plex Video Files Scanner but it does let me select it & save it.

A fix for this regression will be available soon.

Just to say this is also happening on the QNAP Intel build - being accessed via chrome

The fix for this has been deployed to plex.tv/web, and will be rolled out along with the next PMS update.
