I am having an issue with the channel selection plex is making. I live on the IL side of IL/WI border, so I get both channels from Milwaukee and Chicago. I am lucky enough to live roughly 50 to 55 miles away from the towers of both cities. Being that I am on the IL side, I would like the default channels to be the Chicago stations. Plex thinks I always want the Milwaukee channels. For example, I am trying to watch NBC. I got to the guide on my Apple TV through the plex app and select channel 5.1 (NBC Chicago). When the app starts the stream, it pulls channel 4.1 (NBC Milwaukee). If I select channel 4.1, it plays NBC Milwaukee. So, not matter what channel I select I can only watch NBC Milwaukee.
If I close plex and launch my “Channels” app, I can switch between the two channels.
So I know I am getting NBC Chicago in. Same thing if I try from my iPhone,iPad, or on a computer. This also happens with Fox Chicago, If I select channel 32.1…Plex will air channel 6.1 (Fox Milwaukee). I did notice that when I try to watch 58.1, CBS Milwaukee, plex plays CBS Chicago (channel 2.1). So maybe plex only pulls the first “OTA stream” it sees for duplicate channels? I’m not sure, but I do not like this.
When I setup a recording, I can choose the channel i want to record from…so that’s not a problem. But with football starting soon, I don’t want to be stuck on the Wisconsin Stations during Bears games. Its a big pain trying to watch local news. I don’t mind having access to the Milwaukee stations (especially if Chicago is getting stormy weather…I can switch to Milwaukee if there is a ton of interference). I am trying not to have to remove these channels from the DVR setup, but that may be the only solution.
If anyone else has run into this and has a solution, I am all ears.
