Plex Backup

Server Version#:
Player Version#:

Hi Folks, I need to format C and reinstall Plex, nothing wrong with Plex at all so i didn’t include version numbers etc. My problem is i dont remember if I originally did a default install then just manually changed the path for local data or I actually installed Plex on the bigger drive to start with, so I was hoping if i provide a little info, someone who knows the structure could tell me. I am just guessing that I need to install it in exactly the same way for my library to not need scanning again because its big! If all Plex needs is to know where my data folder is, then I can just manually change the default path in the settings after a standard install? So I have 3 “Plex Media Folder” locations on C.
C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs (4KB)
C:\Users\Dawg\AppData\Local (8KB)
C:\Program Files (x86)\Plex (161MB)

Looking at the last line I would say I did an install on C then changed the data folder in settings but I want to make sure I’m right before I format the drive!

Oh I just did a search in the registry per support article for

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Plex, Inc.\Plex Media Server

and it found nothing?

Many thanks
Alan

Edit, I did find the registry key manually.

If you found the branch in the registry, the content of the key LocalAppDataPath will tell you exactly, which folder you need to save.

Make sure to stop plex server before attempting to copy, otherwise you may end up with a damaged database.

Many Thanks OttoKerner, it does indeed point to the bigger drive which I figured held all the data as its in the settings and its big. Thanks for the tip about stopping Plex, I would not have done that!

Don’t forget to save the registry branch itself as well.

Yeah I backed that up ready cheers.
