Plex can’t see files

Edit: there was no real problem other than a user that didn’t understand linux and permissions.

I upgraded my plex server and keep everything on an external drive but when I plug the drive into the new plex server, it doesn’t see anything. I’ve done everything the same as I did with the original install and I’m sure it’s a permission issue but how do I chd 777 the drive or is there something else I can try?

I’ve followed the posts to make the plex account the user account and other posts that have worked for people, but it is not working.

I restored back to a point before changes were made and I’m hoping someone can help me out.

Then I will need more details than just a verbal description.
What does df show?
Next , tell me what you’d like to accomplish using the df output as reference.

Thank you for that.

First, you don’t need to do anything with the service itself. You can completely undo anything you might have done there or were considering doing.

Your problem is because of the /media/USERNAME automounter action. This is exactly what I address in my How-To.

I just realized that my Step B and Step C in the How-To can be reversed to become more logical and clear.

Would you read it again please and let me know if that now makes sense?
