I have been successfully running plex server on a mac mini for over a year accessing my Synology NAS as storage for over a year. Recently I have slow response from the plex dashboard with load times becoming unbearable. Once a movie starts playing everything seems fine, but clicking into a movie can take over a minute. Over the past several weeks my recently added movie list is showing movies I have owned for months at the top of the list as well. Any suggestions?
Have you tried to Optimize the database?
@dirkperritt, I too have been noticing the same. On mine the dashboard has been taking quite some time to load the thumbnails and when I try to flip through my library it bogs down the app (regardless of the device i’m using). I also have noticed that the time it takes to load a movie/music/etc has been taking longer.
As far as troubleshooting, I have tried to tweak the setting in the server but haven’t seen any relief. I have gone in and rescanned my library, optimized the database, emptied the trash cleaned the bundles and even went as far as blowing away all my libraries and recreating them and let me tell ya that wasn’t fun. And still I have the issue.
This issue of slow loading started for me when the version 1.0.0.2261 was released. As I stated it doesn’t matter the device. As far as devices go, have a Windows 10 laptop (plex app), Google Nexus tablet, and Xbox One and all have the same issue. As well as in IE 11 and Chrome browsers.
Just thought I would share my findings as well and to let you know you’re not alone in this issue.
Experiencing the same issues with slow browsing on the new update.
I know this doesn’t add to the conversation, but I have found the web app noticeably faster with 1.0. Previously (0.9.17 I think) the dashboard would never load first time, always showing the connection error. Second attempt was fine. Thereafter everything worked well except going into a TV show. Mostly it timed out, telling me the show wasn’t there. Then it would work.
Now, no issues.

Thanks for the suggestion but I’ve tried with no luck. I am also seeing my recently added movies section not show recently added items but rather movies that were added months ago. Is there a way to do a fresh install without clearing all my database? Maybe my logs would tell me something?
@dirkperritt Where is your media located? I remember reading in another thread about having a time difference between pc running the server and a nas storage device causing issues with recently added.
I think this is the tread: https://forums.plex.tv/discussion/108217/recently-added-shows-old-titles/p1
