Plex Directing to URL instead of local IP

Server Version#: 1.19.3.2831

So yesterday while I was dealing with one issue I saw a forum post about forwarding my server through a web domain (myfakeaddress.com or whatever) instead of my local IP. I cannot for the life of me find that post now.

Can anyone tell me how to set that up? I’m having trouble running my server and my VPN simultaneously which is a problem…

thanks in advance.

Maybe this one?

Hey Otto!

No, that wasn’t it. The one I saw showed directions for telling the server how to refer to a website instead of [local port:32400]. That was I can run my VPN, have a site that updates my IP (like dynu.com) and point the server to that so that it stays online for remote access.

Yes, that is what the option “Custom server access URLs” does.

Sorry, I just looked at the image and didn’t recognize it. Reading that article now. Thank you!

So added it there and still not able to get remote access. I can’t even access my server settings while the VPN is running.

You’re running the hosted Web App. You need to use your local IP to configure your server. Once remote access is working, you can then use the hosted version to make changes (except to remote access).

Decided it was just easier, for now, to run a second box to handle my downloads and dedicate this one to serving. so no webhosting needed for now. Thank you tho…

You are using the hosted Plexweb app at Plex.tv.

You NEED to use the local web app to configure your server:
http://127.0.0.1:32400/web/index.html
Try that one.

Or right click the System Tray Icon and pick ‘Open Plex’.
or
Double Click the System Tray Icon.

I have the local web app and use it. the URL continually redirects to the hosted web app. But this is less an issue now. I just decided to use a different machine for my content acquizition which means I no longer need to use the VPN on my server. So this isn’t a thing i need now.

Thank you tho.
