Hi there, I tried to use plex to organize learning materials and I do not want to change video filenames. I learned about .plexmatch from https://support.plex.tv/articles/plexmatch/ , but got no luck after a few trials.
There are some verbose info:
Library Type: TV Shows
Agent: Personal Media Shows with Local Media Assets(TV) checked
Here is the video files structure I created:
demo_show
└── Season 01
├── .plexmatch
├── AVL Trees & Rotations.mp4
├── All Nodes Distance K In A Binary Tree.mp4
├── An InDepth Algorithmic Analysis of Bubble Sort.mp4
└── Asymptotic Bounding.mp4
Here is the .plexmatch I created:
Year: 2022
Season: 1
ep:s1e1:AVL Trees & Rotations.mp4
ep:s1e2:All Nodes Distance K In A Binary Tree.mp4
ep:s1e3:An InDepth Algorithmic Analysis of Bubble Sort.mp4
ep:s1e4:Asymptotic Bounding.mp4
And Plex does not recognize this show (demo_show) at all. Don’t know what’s the issue.
Only the Plex TV Series agent considers .plexmatch files. It’s supposed to help matching content – not to organize an unstructured list of files. If you want to organize that personal media show, you might want to look into maintaining some embedded metadata.
I’m not aware of a conclusive document. IIRC there’s been a few threads where users pointed out which fields they set using specific apps. Some years ago I filled all supported metadata fields in a metadata editor with some recognizable fake data and checked which fields showed up in Plex.
