I’m trying to understand why a 4K video file that Direct Plays in XPlay has to be transcoded for the branded Plex app. Am I doing something wrong, or is that just a limitation of the app?

I know it’s not supported, I was just using it as a point of reference that my TV is physically capable of playing the format.

Same problem here. When I run PMS 1.14.1, it runs Direct Plays on LG TV but after I update PMS to 1.15.4.919, it sometimes play directly, and sometimes transcode. Unfortunately, whenever My tv try to play directly, it shows up fine for a few minutes but after that it crashes and shows h4 codec error. That’s why I roll back to 1.14.1 version.
When I run 1.14.1 version of PMS, it goes well. No error no transcoding. But with 1.15.4 version, it crashes. I think there is a something wrong in 1.15.4 version.
The linked page may not be 100% accurate. I am able to direct play 10bit (HDR) mkv. mp4 etc files on a similar LG model with the latest version Plex for LG client (recent update 3.101.?) and firmware. The latest firmware may have been after April (5.50.55). The only issue I have is that Plex shows only AAC can be direct played and streamed. Other codecs like ac3, eac3 and vorbis show as direct play: true but direct streamed: false.
