Plex has Forsaken the Xbox One

Great to know the memory leak was fixed, but this new UI … craptastic IMHO

@mcrommert We knew the app had to be rewritten from scratch a while back, the v1 app was written using a framework that was no longer supported when Windows 10 was bought to the Xbox One. We knew we wanted to bring the (beautiful!) new UI that PMP v2 runs to the Xbox One, but it took some time for the new UI to bake (and it’s still baking!). We also had to wait for the Fall Update to be publicly released as it fixes a bunch of severe video playback issues we raised with them. Hopefully that answers your question!

That is helpful… I was wondering if these resources freed for uwp games also work for apps like plex

The new app is awesome! Fantastic UI improvement and new features that I’ve been waiting on for a very long time. Especially the ability to switch users. Thank you devs! Looks like the only thing missing is LiveTV and DVR, which hopefully is coming soon.

One issue though still remains. Trying to skip forward/back on a ts file, recorded on the Plex DVR is painfully slow. It takes 10 seconds to skip forward 30 seconds. Makes it almost pointless. Plus, now there’s no indicator that it’s actually doing something. Any chance the devs can speed up the skip forward/back since the Plex DVR records to a ts file?

@mbarylski I have some recorded content and it only takes a second or two to seek through. Is the content you’ve recorded very high bitrate? Do skips take long on other content from the same server?

It happens on 1080i content, but I’m not sure about anything else because I only record in HD. No issues with skips on any other content. When recordings were being saved as mkvs with the Plex DVR skips were very responsive. They only took 1-2 seconds like you mentioned when they were mkvs. Mpgs transferred from TiVo are fine too, but TS from TiVo were always an issue as well.

@Moussa I did a little bit more testing and discovered that the skips are responsive if I turn off Direct Play, and it seems even better if I turn off Direct Play and Direct Stream. I’m also using an original Xbox One. Are you using an Xbox One S?

Any chance Microsoft allows plex do 24p yet?

Unfortunately, nothing has recently changed in that regard. The app is not able to change the system settings so the app is restricted to use whichever refresh rate the console is set to.

Are moderin TV’s recognizing this 3:2 pulldown and correcting them itself ?

I know my old TV (one of the first flatscreens) had bad stuttering when playing 24p content from BluRay because it only supported 60 Hz.

Now on my new TV with PLEX I do not see this but the 3:2 pulldown should also happen because of the 60 Hz output.

I love the new UI and responsiveness of the new app.
Unfortunatly there are some problems with subtitles now. The display fine at the beginning, but after a short while ( 8 minutes in the episode I was watching) they disappear. The old xbox app displays them fine as does the android app and the samsung app.

Also when playing albums and I navigate to the playlist the cursor disappears every now and then, I have to return to the previous screen and navigate back so get it visible again.

Have seen this also…until they disappear they are quite superior…better text and no reencode

Some tv’s do this and it is just as good as 24hz mode…Especially since almost no set top boxes support 24hz mode i’m definitely going to go this route for next Television - rtings does a comparison here Our TV Motion Tests: 24p Judder - RTINGS.com
