Plex Home Theater for Fedora

Got Fedora? Wanna test?
Do you have a Fedora install? Do you have PlexPass? Do you wanna try Plex Home Theater on you Fedora box? Then follow this link: http://forums.plexapp.com/index.php/topic/56544-experimental-fedora-builds-of-plex-home-theater

I'm hoping others want to give this a try and provide some feedback. If you don't have Plexpass, don't worry, PM me, and I will ask Tobias permission to hand out a package to you for testing.

Also if you read this because you have a CentOS install, please pledge your interest in a CentOS version in this thread. It's quite a bit cumbersome to build this stuff on CentOS so before I poor hours of work into it I want to know its worth the effort.

So if your interested I hope to get some good feedback.

Thanks - Mark

Thanks.

Does it work without the PlexPass?

The thread where all the information resides in is in the PlexPass section. I also believe that the codebase currently checks for plexpass. This will ofc be removed once Plex Home Theater goes out of beta.

That said, if one is comfortable with being a guinea pig and test, and you are without plexpass its quite ok to PM me and we should be able to work something out.

Why is anyone a guinea pig if he/she wants to help testing a beta?

Sorry if you felt offended by that, it was a wrong choice of words. I'm just offering pre-built packages to the community, and I'm pretty sure it might take a few iterations to get the final rpm's packaging just right.

Hi!

I would love to test Plex Home Theater, unfortunately I’m running opensuse (12.2) on all four computers at home. Any chance the Fedora binaries would work on opensuse?

I’m willing to spend some nights to get it working

No promisses .. the SUSE part of this community is relatively small, but I have an OpenSUSE 12.2 x64 VM I could throw at it, when I have time. Just let me say this, its should be easier getting it to run on OpenSUSE 12 than on CentOS 6 :D

/Mark

OK! I'll take that as a promise! Oh wait... :-)

I am trying to build this from the public source on github, but apparently I am missing something because after ./bootstrap and configure i am stuck with http://ix.io/4id as soon as i start make, works fine if i change the line to #include “plex/PlexMediaPart.h” and there are A LOT more errors like this. If anyone could give me a successfull way to build this, I would love to help make it available for Arch Linux https://www.archlinux.org/trustedusers/#dwallace thanks

I happily run PMC on my CentOS 6 HTPC. Hereby pledged. :)

I know its plexpass only access to this link, but if you wan't to, you could give these rpm's a try: http://forums.plexapp.com/index.php/topic/57895-plexht-builds-for-centos-6-with-repo-0995119/

Thanks! I had time to install it today. Had to first uninstall PMC because of libboost-conflicts. Also had to disable atrpms to avoid this:

After that, Plex HT installed without a hitch and started up fine. After logging in, I quickly tested playing a movie, and it seemed to be working nicely. Will let you know if I bump into any problems.

Thanks again :)

What fedora version was this? Whats package? And did you use RPM or YUM to install?

Would like to know more please ;)

/Mark

This was CentOS, as per my post immediately above. Would you like me to post additional details here or in the thread you referenced (http://forums.plexapp.com/index.php/topic/57895-plexht-builds-for-centos-6-with-repo-0995119/)?

Ahh.. yeah, I was checking forums on my mobile and my brain focused on the fedora topic line.

It would be helpfull if you post in the other thread.

Stuff like what repos do you have on your CentOS install? Versions etc. Did you build ffmpeg by hand? I'm assuming that some of the FFMPEG libs are conflicting between the ATRpm repo and some other repo or package you have installed.

Thanks ZiGGiMoN for the hard work ! Could it be possible to readd the rpms for Fedora 16 on your repository or it's too late ? ;-)

I'm afraid I don't even have the build guests for fedora 17 any more either. The reason being that with every stride XBMC takes forward it pulls PHT with it. And I kept having to manually find src.rpms and add them to repos to make the whole thing go round. So some time ago I decided, I'm gonna follow redhats lead. I will build for fedora versions still receiving updates from Red Hat. They do this for 12 months (roughly). So currently I only build Fefora 18 + 19, and soon it will be 19 + 20.

But you should be able to find the build instructions in my old threads. If you follow them i might be able to help out if you get stuck.

... and one day we the non-plexpass users will be able test... hopefully... :P

I don't think that day is too far off into the future. It's reached 1.0.1 and is considered a release candidate.

can't wait...

Thanks for the info...
