Plex HTPC crashes with some videos even after formatting the computer

Sound is coming from the tv and the computer’s brand new.

I’m going to ask again. What do you mean by this exactly?

I’ll be in the middle of watching something and then it cuts out and automatically restarts. It will go to the windows user sign in screen and I have to enter my windows password again.

I’m not saying it is the Venus but people have had lots of problems with them including playing videos with crashes.

Some threads on the topic.

Issues with the 790

If the computer automatically restarts there may be something else going on like a hardware fault. That’s a bad crash, the kind of crash that is not supposed to happen in a modern OS. (I have had exactly that kind of crash on past systems where it turned out to be a failing power supply. YMMV.)

It is the responsibility of the OS to ensure that no app can ever do this. So the fault lies not in the app but at a different layer. Often this is the result of buggy drivers or hardware which is why I suggested disabling hardware decoding as this avoids the most likely buggy paths.

Since this didn’t resolve it for you, the problem is likely hardware. It could be GPU drivers but less likely at this point. You could trying changing the quality settings to one that uses ANGLE but this is unlikely to resolve your issue. My guess is a hardware fault in the GPU or maybe even the PSU.

Just wondered as that user also didn’t understand how rubbish those UM mini PCs are. The 790’s are as flakey as hell. OEM components with a mish mash of drivers and a format that cripples the hardware.
