Plex installation path - Move to SSD

Before i get all crazy here i think i just follow the steps for moving the server or changing hdd, but in my case (dumb) i installed plex to one of my NAS local locations on my server. basically i have two 4TB usb 3 drives mirrored. These drives also hold personal content like pictures. Anyway, i installed the actual app to this location because C: was filling up (i have a 128 SSD as OS drive). So i upgraded some other worstations/latptops and basically i have two SSD drives laying around. I want to move the Plex installation to one of these AND move my Transcoding folder over too. i have a 128 and 275 GB drive.

My question: First and foremost, i guess i should go for the 275, but can i fit everything on the 128?

Second - What steps/How do i move my installation of plex over there? I was going to copy the folder, uninstall plex/ reinstall to coppied location and see what happens. But i don’t want to botch it, so thoughts?

I decided to acronis the whole folder (88 gigs) and im going to restore that to my blank SSD 128 GB (shows as 116 actual).
Then i’ll uninstall plex server, reinstall to the new location and open plex - change the location in the cfg to the new drive.

New question: should i uninstall plex? is that needed here or just open plex, - move to new location/drive - then delete old folder?

@OttoKerner Thanks man, basically had my plex server data in this location already so it looks like i was on the right warpath!

current: H:\Plex_Data
New: P:\Plex_Data

Side note i must have moved this before, i think i did cause of drive space or something cause in C:\Users\XXXX\AppData\Local i alreaedy had “Plex Media Serverold”

Thanks again! I’ll report back to let you know how this went

EQA, Thanks a million. Both of you guys actually thanks sincerely. I did find 2 more keys that reverenced my old directory in the reg, one appeared to be a package installer but i changed it anyway (side note i could never update directly from the web gui - maybe that will fix it cause it was referencing C:\ sitll instead of H: where plex just was)

The server is up and running like a champ! Transcoding seems fine at the moment but there are only direct streams and throttled connections. I typically pull 8-10 max concurrent users, and since i’ve been offline for a day im sure those free loaders are going to resume leeching.

Also i wrote an audoit script to find and replace “*:\Plex Media Server*” with whatever drive you want. it worked fine for me, and i live on the edge so running it against my reg with full admin rights… you know thats what acronis is for! side note - it failed to find the C:\user\app… plex server, i didn’t have a wildcard in there to start. I’d be happy to share.

Finally, Thanks again for all your help. most of the time i just need to talk it out, and im sure i would have found (or uninstalled/re) the app which should have resolved the reg keys - but more than pleased of this progress. Now i have to find out why H:\ cluster is running 100% disk utilization… but thats not a plex issue its prolly a failing drive!

P.S. i started this for home, shared it and shared it… never really bought a real box or move it over to another OS rather than windows. i7, 16 gb ram, 48 TB of space not including OS or new plex drive (24 Logical TB). I used windows storage pool via mirror. My advice is to not do that… Cause it doesn’t notify you that the drives fail… but on the other hand at least it mirrors my data!

Seriously though guys, thanks again!
