Plex is always transcoding x265

Thanks for the reply.

So, video under 4 Mbps plays OK, and video transcoded to 4 Mbps buffers.

One last test: In the Plex app on the TV, set the remote speed to 2 or 3 Mbps. Then play a H.264 and H.265 video and see what happens.

If the transcoded video plays OK, then it looks like that is the limit of what you can stream from the server to the TV.

I’ve already done an x265 at 3 Mbps and it still is buffering.

I’m thinking there is an Internet issue there somewhere. Although a speedtest on the Laptop shows a download of 50 Mbps it might not be that to the Plex Server. I and several others don’t have an issue with speed to the Plex Server at all, but we are all within 60 kms of each other.

This friend is 1200 kms away, in another state and using a completely different Service Provider.

What are your thoughts about setting up a Plex Client on the Laptop, also connected via WiFi, and see what happens?

Thanks,

Greg

Give it a try. Will be interesting to see if the PC can stream without buffering.

I have a higher end Hisense 75U9H with Vidaa U6 and it is exactly the same, Plex for Vidaa has basically no support for anything but low bitrate H264 and basic audio.

Which is disappointing because other apps will do high bitrate 4K Dolby Vision, Atmos Audio and all sorts of things, and the remote proudly has a dedicated PLEX button. The built in media player app will play ultra high bitrate test files from a USB or from my NAS with all sorts of weird and wonderful codecs and HDR formats including all DV profiles and HDR10/10+.
Connected over Wifi6 at 800+ mbit to a unify network

Basically, use the TV as a monitor and plug in a Shield or ATV for proper playback. everything plays perfectly from my shield.

@Faceman2k13 - Thanks for your reply.

I agree with you Plex for Vidaa is my issue and your solution is the way I was thinking. A Google CCwGTV looks like a cheap and easy solution.

Thankfully, I had planned to use a shield from the get go to avoid ARC audio limitations and since I run everything through a video distribution matrix anyway, so I didn’t care at all that the built in apps were useless, but having a physical plex button on the remote but a barely functional app is definitely a poor effort.

I know Vidaa themselves are the main problem here, the support they give developers is extremely limited, and the OS only seems to allow certain apps access to certain codecs. the same MT9900 processor running android can do pretty much anything perfectly.
