I have a good sized library however my C:\Users\Plex\AppData\Local\Plex Media Server folder has grown to over 100GBs. This is just information about my library, where it is stored, some text, and some graphics. That is very simply put and I am sure there is more to it than that – however, is there any way to analyze what is in this directory and clean it out/compress it/et cetera?
See here for a guide on how to save some of that storage space:
https://support.plex.tv/articles/202529153-why-is-my-plex-media-server-directory-so-large/
If you do it that way, without copying the contents from the default location, you will lose all your libraries ![]()
Here is a more verbose guide
I think the original question could be reframed, “IF THIS FOLDER is just information about my library, where it is stored, some text, and some graphics why is it 100GB or more”, emphasis mine.
I’m in the same boat. My content lives on a 14TB NAS, but I run the PMS on a desktop. My local PMS folder is 160GB and climbing. How can I reduce the size of the PMS folder, as the OP indicated we ll? Is there no way to analyze it and clean it out? Compress it, even?
But it’s not. Looking again at one I asked about awhile ago I see some info I was surprise to see.
Among other stuff I see the file “Info.xml”. It has alot of information in it including 142 lines of reviews for the movie which I find strange considering plex does not display user/site reviews. That one movie takes up about 6MB and has 219 files and 17 folders.
But to answer your question, no. Plex has no such tool. We will have to wait for someone to crate such a tool.
More on a similar topic (and my issue), if you like to read it.
Depends on the client type. I think the reviews are shown on ATV and Windows app store app for instance.
Hmm. Why not in plexweb? I find that a bit odd. I always saw the PlexWeb interface as WYSIWYG. God knows what other information is being displayed on the other end if plex hides more information that can be seen for the clients. Let’s just hope the reviews are kind and not malicious and/or unconcerned.
