Plex Media Player packages for Linux

Because of this and your findings, I’m taking down links to v1.x as they are not needed anymore.

Does this mean that Plex doesn’t support the old UI anymore?

I went to your site some days ago to check the latest 1.x version for Linux (with the TV1 UI) and now it is no more available… please can you put the latest TV1 UI version online again? I don’t like the new UI and it runs badly on my media player. Otherwise I’ll stick with the latest I downloaded…

It is needed by people who don’t like/don’t want to use the new UI, please at least put the latest version that supports the old UI…

No it means that TV2 is now considered good for everyone, not only plex pass users like before (before you could only get 2.x PMP releases if you had plex pass if I remember correctly). But I have all my clients with the old UI and they work flawlessly so no reason to stop using them for an inferior UI

Thank you for your work! The only issue I had was the Qt error when trying to sign in, which (as stated in previous posts) is solved by fullscreening the application. It would be great if Plex Inc would step up and provide an official AppImage as they do for PlexAmp.

For me, it’s more for the WAF. I have Roku’s on all of my TVs with the exception of one that has my HTPC (also running the Plex server). It would be nice to have the original UI on the PMP, to keep it consistent with the one the family is currently using on all of the other TVs.

As a side note, thank you @Knapsu for this package. Until I founds this, my HTPC ran the MythTV frontend, which was great…but with my switch to Plex, it was the one TV that was not like the others. I really appreciate your work in providing this!

Plex Media Player 2.6.0.803-edcf527b is available for download.

This release comes with better support for Wayland display server.

Looks like the tv2 branch has been merged to master. Your latest build seems to be from master.

2.6.0 Release Note

Thanks @Knapsu I’m running on Linux Mint 18.3 Sylvia, no problems at all.

@Knapsu Thanks for your great work!

However, I’m unable to leave full screen mode? I’m running Linux Mint 18.3
I once selected full screen and now I can’t change to a windowed mode anymore, even after restart.

How is this different from the Plexamp player?

Plex Media Player 2.7.0.806-608417d4 is available for download.

@“venice@posteo.us” please see page 4 of this topic on forum or run the AppImage with --help argument to see the switches that can force PMP to start in windowed or fullscreen mode.

I want to collaborate with translations but I think I’m missing something. I requested access to transifex (https://forums.plex.tv/discussion/229547/want-to-help-translate-localize-the-plex-media-player-app) but the strings here are OK. Translations for your build are not taken from transifex? How can I help with translations? In GitHub project (GitHub - plexinc/plex-media-player: Next generation Plex Desktop/Embedded Client) didn’t find these wrong strings…

I’m trying the app on Ubuntu 18.04 beta. I click Sign-in and nothing happens. Right-click and select follow link, then I can log in, but then it says I’m signed in and can close the window. I’m uncertain how to access my library at this point. Maybe it’s the beta OS. Please let me know if I can supply some sort of logging that may help.

UPDATE: I entered full screen and activated the software from my phone. Returning to the windowed version remains activated / logged in. Weird, but it works! Thank you for this app!

As described in a post from Jan 24, I’m seeing this when trying to sign in:

2018-03-25 23:23:23 [ INFO ] JS: Uncaught (in promise) NotSupportedError: Failed to load because no supported source was found. XPCOMGlueLoad error for file /usr/lib/firefox/libmozgtk.so: /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libpangoft2-1.0.so.0: undefined symbol: hb_font_funcs_set_variation_glyph_func Couldn't load XPCOM.

Haven’t tried any workarounds yet (full screen, etc). Just wanted to report the issue.

Anyone else notice that the screen goes black after inactivity in v2.7.0? I don’t have that issue with earlier versions. Screen saver is set to None (always has been). I rolled back to v2.6.0 because I don’t currently have a way to get out of the black screen with just my remote… I can try to tweak the lirc setup, but I don’t look forward to that

Edit: Nevermind. My own issue related to the OS. Not sure why the config in the OS changed when 2.7.0 got installed, but it was that.

Hi,

I’ve a very strange problem. PMP work fine with AUR installation. But with my laptop integrated screen configured to 1920x1080, PMP don’t respect this and his resolution is very low :(. Actually I move PMP window on external screen to have fine resolution 1920x1080.

An idea ?

Hi!
I’ve had good luck with this appimage on my Debian and Fedora mechines, but today i tried it out on a fresh Antegros install and no luck. I made sure fuse was installed, made sure it was marked executeable, yadda yadda yadda… Still no luck. it throws these errors:

/tmp/.mount_Plex_Me5KGsI/usr/bin//plexmediaplayer.wrapper: line 125: 1053 Aborted (core dumped) LD_LIBRARY_PATH="" zenity --question --title="$TITLE" --text="$TEXT" 2> /dev/null
/tmp/.mount_Plex_Me5KGsI/usr/bin//plexmediaplayer.wrapper: line 125: 1059 Aborted (core dumped) LD_LIBRARY_PATH="" zenity --question --title="$TITLE" --text="$TEXT" 2> /dev/null
/tmp/.mount_Plex_Me5KGsI/usr/bin/plexmediaplayer: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/libfontconfig.so.1: undefined symbol: FT_Done_MM_Var

Any ideas of stuff i can try?

Im on Ubuntu 16.04 and cannot get any of the images to work. I tried 2.7, 2.6 and 2.5. The screen flashes and nothing happens after I double click the app image. I selected yes on the question about configuring the system. I tried on command line using all the different flags, --windowed --fullscreen etc. There is no output on the terminal and I am at a loss on where to go to find logs. Any help would be appreciated. @Knapsu
