Plex Media Player packages for Linux

Plex Media Player v1.3.11.729-4be89b5c is available for download from https://knapsu.eu/plex/.

I’m getting some really strange behaviour when using this on my installation of ubuntu 16.04 LTS, not sure why.

It’s like there are keys stuck when i run the application which makes it practically unusable.
This while there isn’t even a keyboard or mouse attached to the computer running it, only a remote which is functioning properly (works great with kodi).

i can’t even enter my pin because it’s doing it all by itself and getting it wrong each time (obviously) i’m not sure where i’m even supposed to start debugging this.

Could you help me?

Having a strange issue with Ubuntu 16.04. Sometimes, when starting a video, it fails to play the video itself. I hear the audio playing, but I just see the PMP grayish/reddish gradient background. I have to retry once or twice for it to play the video. Otherwise it seems to work very well.

This is spot on, now my goto image for PMP. Just trying to determine what the system dependencies are as wanting to run on uBuntu server if possible. Thank you for the good work

Thanks!

Thanks a lot for your work Knapsu !

Hi @Knapsu , thanks for building this image for the community

I need to edit a conf file to make HDMI CEC work with my setup, do you know if there is any way to access them with your AppImage ? The file I’m looking to edit is this one : https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/207338798-Advanced-Configuration

Many thanks

@ledge74, on Linux the plexmediaplayer.conf file is placed in ~/.local/share/plexmediaplayer/ directory.

Yeah, same experience exactly. Keyboardless linux box. IR remote works fine with VDR and Kodi, but in PMP every key is stuck.

I don’t really need this software as I’m mostly using Plex with Android+Chromecast or Playstation3, but I thought I give it a try to see if it’s so much better that I would switch over. Might take some time until I dare to try again…

That is not a new version of PMP. You got my hopes up for a minute, but was nothing new to see.
Knapsu announced that version months ago.

I was looking for PMP for Linux, and obviously not available from Plex direcetly. People on reddit /PleX community pointed me here. This is exactly what I was looking for. Will try this out tonight.

Thanks for doing this.

Is Chromecast support added to this? That would be sick! If not, you should check out MKChromecast and the python scripts. Shouldn’t be too much work with python-pychromecast and the libs already done…

You welcome @noraz123

@SveinAre this is a clean build from Plex sources, so there are no modifications or additions that could potentially interfere. Plex Media Player has the ability to cast to other devices including Chromecast, but I don’t have one to actually test it in action.

Any way to get this AppImage running in a 32bit Linux? I’m running Linux mint Cinnamon right now 32bit version.

hi @Knapsu for 4k (hevc) hardware acceleration on nvidia hardware, ffmpeg with cuda support (cuda, cuvid, nvenc) is required, do you plan to include it?

Hey @rajs04 , Plex Media Player is available only for 64-bit processors. I might try to see if it will compile on 32-bit Linux but no guarantees.

@mdesdin could you send me more details about it in a private message please.

@Knapsu another improvement to consider (at least for the moment, then this seems to be the only workaround): https://forums.plex.tv/discussion/comment/1544112/#Comment_1544112

I’ve tried this Plex client on Linux Mint 18.3 with kernel 4.10.0-42, Cinnamon interface.

It works out of the box, thanks a lot for the hard work done.
