Same issue here with Plex Server 1.16.6.1559. DS918+ DSM 6.2.2-24922 Update 3
Downgraded to Plex Server 1.16.5.1554 and all is right with the world again.
@Ridley Any plan to also release a docker image with this new Forum Preview ? Using your official PLEX docker on Unraid, but since it’s not in PlexPass, I don’t think I can install the preview (?) Maybe there is a way thru a VARIABLE in the Docker command ?
(Updated top post to add these instructions)
To test in a Docker container, open a shell in the container (using docker exec), download and dpkg -i the Ubuntu package, update the version number in /version to reflect the build number you’re testing, and restart the container.
When I restart my container after install it reverts back to the original image state, so don’t think the instructions are correct. What I did was create a Dockerfile like this:
FROM plexinc/pms-docker:1.16.5.1554-1e5ff713d
WORKDIR /
RUN apt-get update && apt-get full-upgrade -y
RUN apt-get install git nano wget apt-transport-https -yRUN wget https://artifacts.plex.tv/plex-media-server-alpha/1.16.7.1574-4215f2c66/debian/plexmediaserver_1.16.7.1574
-4215f2c66_amd64.deb
RUN dpkg -i plexmediaserver_*
RUN rm /etc/cont-init.d/50-plex-update
It uses the latest version of PMS docker, install some dependencies, installs the preview version and last removes the Plex update script.
It’s a bit crude but for testing should work fine.
Tested it and hw transcoding works on my i9 9900K, will test it more during the week.
The cause of the Synology settings access issue is now understood and we are working on a fix.
I’m getting a python error which seems to be related to not being able to access settings with anything past 1.16.5.1554-1. It’s not just this experimental version. It also exists with the plexpass preview version too. I’m glad that it’s not just me.
I’m afraid to try anything experimental again, because even after reverting, I still couldn’t access settings and had to completely rebuild my Plex instance. I was able to save all of my metadata and rwd/ffwd images by just dropping the old “Media” and “Metadata” folders in the new Plex instance, but spending all day yesterday fixing the way I watch TV was not enjoyable.
It’s not just on Synology.
Is this available to test on the Nvidia shield?
Please see the first post, under Download links. If your platform is not listed, then no it’s not available.
Understood, and the fix is for an affected platforms
OK, I appreciate the acknowledgement.
Thank you very much for the insight that HDR > SDR transcoding support in in development. A couple of other questions:
- Does HDR > HDR transcoding work (or is it also coming)?
- Is transcoding to H265 supported now?
This definitely sounds like extremely promising progress to the transcoding engine!
Transcoding to H265/X265 would be awesome if possible.
Do you still need logs and sample files for Intel/Windows transcoding not working? I haven’t had time yet but I also want to make sure it’s still needed.
I’m using a Qnap TS-1677x with a Ryzen 1700 and Quadro P4000. Thank you!!! Finally getting the performance I was dreaming about when building this box!!! Thank you Plex for sticking with it for us Pass holders!
Just for link this epic problem (Stuck in P-State P0 after transcode finished on NVIDIA - #43 by ComasSky1) with linux server still present since 2014
Already known by Plex team but … just for remember
This release does not enable NVDEC on my Linux server. I still have to use a patch like this one: Guide: NVDEC Hardware Acceleration Patch for Plex Media Server on Linux in order to force the “-hwaccel nvdec” flag on which is needed for HW-accelerated decoding on my server. With that it works but not perfectly for some reason. I very often get an error message about the transcoder failing but when I press “Retry” it pretty much always works on the second try.
The CPU on my server is very weak but with NVDEC it’s just barely enough to support 1-2 transcodes depending on the source file.
When reporting a new issue in this build, please include your Plex Media Server logs and a sample file that reproduces the issue.
Well had some time to test it a bit more this afternoon, due to low bandwidth (5mbps) I need to transcode everything. Watched some 720P content (Ancient Aliens) with my usual settings and I’m impressed, where normally it would show artifact (due to low 720p source and transcoding) on this preview it almost didn’t show any artifacting. If this is due to the i9 9900K newer iGPU or the new transcoder I don’t know, if I compare it to the i7 8700 I had before it’s much better (both those should have the same iGPU)
For kicks I also tested a 4K remux with HDR, transcoding down to 720P again no artifacts, bland colors though probably due to HDR->SDR not working BUT hw transcoding worked, CPU hovering around 50% for that transcode.
All this is a container running on Debian 10, kernel 5.0.0. When this will go to Plex Beta i’ll test it on my main server which has some more load.
All in all happy we getting closer now.
Check our Nivdia driver version. If you are on an older version it won’t work, and the logs will tell you the same.
