great idea! An app would be great
PlexPy, PushBullet etc. arenât really apps though, are they?
PlexPy is an app that runs on your server, that you can access through a web page on any device with a browser. It reads the logs from Plex and accesses the Plex API to gather metrics on the server, including reading if Plex is up or not. It can be configured to use PushBullet, Pushalot and many other methods of notifications, such as server not accessible, new streaming sessions, new media added, etc.
PushBullet is an app you can install on your smart phone to get notifications from PlexPy or other apps that use itâs API. Getting server logs, key info from key applications running on the server, all in one simple interface. Each of those reported things can all be marked specific to the app or service running on the device so when you get the notification you know exactly which app is reporting what.
So yes, they are apps. Just not the type of apps you were thinking about specifically, but applications by all rights, themselves.
PlexPy can tell you if the PMS is down, someone is streaming, buffering or has finished watching a show. It can tell you all of this via all of the specifically written apps that are designed for this type of reporting. It also tracks who, what, when where and how media is streamed, and can track that information for as long as you have had it running.
I read in a thread (wish I could remember which one) that the devolper of plexpy was hired by the plex team. So I wouldnât be surprised if we see a lot of plexpyâs features in the webapp soon.
I hope so too but the developer of Transmogrify for Plex also works for Plex and none of those cool features ever made it into the product.
And the original developer for PlexWatch works for Plex, too, and this hasnât been integrated into Plex yet⊠( @ljunkie ) @drzoidberg33 is now a Ninja by his handle, so not sure if that means heâs doing dev work or doing support here, or whatâŠ
Interesting⊠I really hope the fact that they work for Plex now means their expertise and work finds its way into the official Plex system! I canât imagine that theyâre just ninjas now, that would be a waste of talent. Iâm sure it was an acquisition in the same way the developer of mpv, @wm4, joined Plex and how they use mpv as the basis for the new Plex Media Player now.
Could this also include a real time CPU usage indicator and possibly total upload bandwidth being used by PMS?
That would be a great feature addition!
I would love to see this app in the future! Cross-Platform of course
I would use it all the time.
Thinking more about this, maybe the server admin functions should be integrated into the player apps. Or does anything speak against that?
We already saw a bit of problems with this and the friends on one of the mobile apps. There was some way to manipulate them, which resulted in deleting friends or inviting them or something like that from a managed user account.
IMO, leave the admin functionality to the Web App. Itâs not that much more difficult to get to, and provides a layer of security that make it harder to manipulate.
Yes, the security aspect should be paid attention to. But if only an admin that has privileges and has to log in with his pin gets access to admin functions in the player apps, then whatâs the concern?

Works well in Emby I guess and was one thing I really liked there. Since I do most operations via Android, using the non-mobile-friendly web app is really not a great way to administrate the server. And often it is little things like updating the library or deleting content.
I still think this feature suggestion is quite important.
Currently thereâs no good way of checking the server dashboard from a smart phone. I know you can go to https://app.plex.tv/desktop, however the lack of responsive layout is a bummer.
Tautulli or Varys are both ways you can monitor your server from an app.
Not sure about android, but the IOS PLEX app has been slowly adding some admin functions, like adding users etc.
Seems like this feature request has been fulfilled, with the launch of the Plex Dash app for iOS and Android.

Letâs wait a few days, then I can close this thread, in order to release the votes.
