Recently set up a new Synology DS420+ Trying out the LiveTV & DVR functions of Plex Media Server via an HD HomeRun Flex 4K/ATSC 3.0 tuner.
1.) Setup Plex Media Server container from DSM 7.1 with the HD HomeRun tuner fine.
2.) Subscribed to lifetime plex pass
3.) Downloaded tvOS Plex app to my AppleTV, since this will be my preferred viewing client.
3a) received error message “Error Loading content. Live TV requires Plex Media Server 1.24.4 or higher”
4.) Downloaded the latest version (1.30.0) from Plex website and upgraded Plex Media Server.
5.) TV Guide data downloaded successfully.
The client (either web browser or tvOS or iOS app) won’t tune an ATSC 3.0 “next gen tv” channel. Orange circle spins and eventually errors out with “Playback error. could not tune channel. check your tuner or antenna”. However, when selecting an ATSC 2.0 channel “HD”, the LiveTV and DVR functions work fine.
I downloaded the HDHomeRun iOS App and all the channels (both ATSC 2.0 & 3.0) work fine, so it’s not a signal issue.
Not sure why you cannot tune the ATSC 3.0 channels.
However, Plex does not support AC4 audio, the type used with ATSC 3.0 broadcasts. So, even if you were able to tune the channel, it would have no audio.

Thanks for the reply, FordGuy61. I’ve also been testing out Channels DVR Server with their 30-day free trial. They seemed to have figured it out. ATSC 3.0 broadcasts and audio work fine for LiveTV and DVR recordings. TV Guide and interface very well designed and intuitive. The only drawback is $80/year for the service
I was hoping plex media server would have figured it out by now but doesn’t seem so. Fingers crossed for future development…
