Server Version#: 1.32.7.7621
Hey all, I just upgraded my Plex server (it does more than just Plex) which has some significant power and RAM. I was reading through all the settings and looking to optimize it a bit. There were a few settings I couldn’t seem to find much info on I was hoping I could get some help.
- Dell PowerEdge Server
- 2 Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5-2690 v4 @ 2.60GHz
- 16 cores each
- 128 GB RAM
- 8 Raid 5 SAS drives
SETTINGS:
-
Database Cache Size (MB), Default = 40MB, I think I can increase this to make Plex run better but not sure to what or what this impacts.
-
Transcoder quality. Will automatic “Make my CPU hurt”, do I even need to make my CPU hurt with what I have? Leaving it at Automatic for now.
-
Transcoder default throttle buffer, Default = 60, Could/Should I bump this up to a few minutes?
-
Background transcoding x264 preset. So very slow would be the smallest video files and better quality whereas ultra-fast is the opposite? It defaulted to Very Fast. Can someone put that in terms of say a typical 1080 movie with a file size of 1.2GB. What would this mean?
Any other settings you think I should look at would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance
