Just checking in to see what happens. It seems like @End has gotten some log files. We appear to be at least a few who has this problem. Hoping for a solution

I don’t have a solution to this, just letting you know it is not forgotten and we are still looking into what is going on.

The logs show that it is unable to retrieve the provides information from Plex’s client API:

Hello!
I’ve been having issues like you with my AppleTV 4K 2022. It’s connected via gigabit, but I think it’s not relevant.

Today I get it to be announced as player in my other iOS devices.
All my hardware have the latest software updates, also Plex players an Plex Server.
Maybe it’s coincidence and it is working fine for all of you now with some update. Anyway, if you are still getting problems, this is what I did:

  1. Completely removed Plex from AppleTV. Rebooted the AppleTV.
    Installed Plex on AppleTV.
  2. Disconnected my router from internet, so my Plex Server is still visible on LAN.
  3. Opened Plex on AppleTV, skipped the register/login, went to settings and activated the “Announce as Player” option . Rebooted the AppleTV again (maybe it’s unnecessary, but is what I did).
  4. Enabled internet in the router.
  5. Logged in Plex on AppleTV and activated again the “Announce as Player” option.
  6. I rebooted again the AppleTV ('cause I’m a maniac).
  7. And now with Plex in the foreground in the AppleTV I can see it as a player in my iOS devices.

I hope it works for you.

P.S.: Sorry for my terrible english.

I can confirm it works! Updated app on Apple TV, no success. Uninstalled app, reboot Apple TV, re-installed Plex, skip login, enable player announce, login, enable announce again: and bingo! No need here to pull the plug from the internet. I cannot control volume from iPhone to Apple app directly, but the rest is fine!

Well, I’ll be damned! It works!

Thanks to the both of you. :+1:t2:

@BigWheel are you seeing this?

Wow, it works. How odd.

So what makes this work exactly? Skipping login once after reinstalling the app? Why is it even working?

yes but that is odd. The issue was determined to be with a settings toggle which is fixed and should be out in next release. ( so you don’t have to go through those odd steps for it to stick )

For anyone reading these steps prior to the official fix, the only required part for me was uninstall, reinstall, then skipping sign in and toggling advertise as player on before logging into your account and toggling it on again (it gets set to off by default when you login). Immediately after I did that, it was available to be controlled. So, the router steps and rebooting should not be necessary.

I gave this a shot and it worked for me as well! Thanks for sharing. But, it stopped working the next time my AppleTV restarted.

Has the work around continued to work for anyone else after the next restart/the app is flushed from memory? Hopefully the permanent fix in the upcoming update helps.

Can confirm that it stopped working for me shortly after lol. back to using the xbox.

Still works here. Apple TV was off power for a day. Perhaps the reboot is crucial after all.

And now it’s gone! Started a movie and control is off. How strange…. I’ll await the permanent fix.

It happened to me too… I see it as player on iPhone but not on iPad.

As a workaround until the official app update, this time I only did the following and it’s working again:

  1. Close session in Plex on AppleTV.
  2. Force close Plex on AppleTV.
  3. Open Plex on AppleTV.
  4. Skip login/register.
  5. Activate “Announce as player”.
  6. Login again and check “Announce as Player” is active.

It seems no need for delete the app, reboots or disconnect from internet. Maybe it’s not needed to force close Plex on AppleTV neither.

Great! I’ll tag this issue as solved once the update is out and I’ve tested that it works.

This seems to be fixed in the latest beta 8.16 on my devices. Had to turn off the setting, force quit the app, then turn it back on. Working great now on both of my AppleTVs. Thanks @BigWheel for the fix. Hope that helps everyone else as well.
