Plex on Linux Vs windows

Server Version#:1.10.1.4602
Player Version#: 1.3.0.0
I’ve scrolled down decently far and haven’t seen anything resembling an answer, so here goes…

For you users that have used Plex on both mediums, is there a benefit to using one over the other. i.e. Linux transcodes better(faster) etc…

AMD FX-9590 16GB RAM 2 X MSI RX580 OC in crossfire 19TB Storage

Unless sold on the alternative currently on Windows 10 pro

And you probably won’t cause everyone’s experience is different… So many variables to consider.
I speak from my own experience. Windows 10 suks. If my choices were Linux or Windows 10 then I would switch to Linux(and I swear by that statement). I’m just thankful Plex still works on Win7.

But the truth of the matter is, if you are well-versed in Windows and are comfortable with it then you should probably stay with it.

Note that were you to have a Plex Pass, Plex on Linux does not support AMD GPUs for hardware accelerated transcoding.

Plex on Windows does support AMD GPUs for hardware accelerated transcoding. No idea how it treats GPUs in Crossfire (or Nvidia SLI for that matter).

If you don’t know anything about Linux and you just want a server that just works, stay on Windows.
Yes, you can run Plex Server stably on Windows 10, despite of what the refuseniks say.

If you want to learn Linux, you’re free to try it. But don’t expect Plex to change any of the platform-intrinsic things, like e.g. the way how access permissions are handled or how external/remote drives are added in Linux.
