I have a Plex Pass myself and have my Server shared out to a few friends. The ones on PS4 log into their own accounts to view my shared content but apparently it’s forcing them to get a plex pass to view the content I’m sharing. I don’t have this issue on the Xbox’s, FireTV, Roku or Web Browser users… Why is this a requirement for PS4? The work around currently is to use the Browser to log into their own Plex Account and play my content from there. Does anyone know if this will be changing or do I have something wrong set up?
Why? for the Price of a plex pass for them (like I said I’m already a life time member and all they are doing is viewing my content not running anything themselves) it would be cheaper in the long run to buy a roku or whatever for them. Not sure why PS4 requires this, It’s like Plex is Double dipping because you want to view content on the PS or Xbox One (the 360 doesn’t require it)
Anyone know how long it’s suppose to be in Beta? I use it at home from time to time on one of my PS4’s (never realized it required a Plex Pass since I already had one) It’s worked perfectly for me…
I am sure there is a threshold that Plex have for deciding to take apps out of Preview or Beta but that is not likely something they discuss (unless you get @elan drunk… apparently that works sometimes :D)
There are some missing features at the moment which I know the teams are trying to fix like no SSL, channels and slow browsing in the app on PS3 which although not present on the PS4 may have an impact. I’m only guessing but I suspect they will want to make the app fully available on PS3 and PS4 at the same time.
Generally our policy is to have apps gated under plexpass while the device is in preview. once the app leaves preview it’ll become available for all users. same will happen with PS3,PS4 but I obviously can’t give any sort of timelines.
